Best alarm for my P5?

I've been looking at all the different alarms out there, since I got my system installed. There are so many choices, that I'm not sure what to get.

The place I bought my system said they can do the Viper 2-way (without remote start) for $310 installed. That sound like a decent price to you or should I go with something else? I have also heard that the key fobs break easy and go through batteries pretty quick. If anyone has more info on this, I would appreciate it.

Thanks!
Sam

First of te usual install for the viper 2 way is atleast $500.

Alarms are completely useless without great installation.
For $310 I would be scetchy about the product and know damn well the install would suck.

Well, that's the price they quoted me. Circuit City had the same price as well, $359 for the one with remote start and $299 for the one without. Stereo West (the place I go to) is trying to matching it. These guys do a great job on installs. I did mention that I could get the Audiovox off of ebay for $140 and I think that had a great deal to do with the price.

Anyway, unless someone has something really bad to say, then I think I'm going to do it.

Any questions I should be asking about the install?

Thanks,
Sam

I would double check those Circuit City prices because that is not what they sell those alarms for, I know becuase I run the department and we have never had them priced that low. It might be due to the area ytou are in but it sounds way too low.

I worded my statement poorly :(
$500 includes the unit and the install.

Funny you should mention the Audiovox alram.

I work with an installer that has on e and he has been very pleased with it and has had no reliability issues unlike EVERY person I know with the Viper 2 way system.

I'm getting the Viper 2-way with remote start next month. I have a Viper 550ESP right now. I think the model number is v790xv. My installer has it, and a few of my friends have it too. I don't know of anyone having a problem with it. Oh, and I am returning my 550ESP, so it's only costing me $100.

Whats wrong with the 550esp?

Give the others atleast 4 months before fallowing suit as that is usualy how long it takes fro the 790xvi's remotes to break.

Nothing wrong with the 550esp; it's even got my underbody neons hooked up so that I can remote start, then tap the AUX key twice to toggle the relay on or off for the neons, - but I just moved into a new apartment. In my old place I could see my car from my bedroom window. Now, my car is out of line of sight thanks to some trees that get in the way. As much as I would like to play Paul Bunyan, I am sure it would violate my lease agreement somehow. Other people have car alarms, and most of them have the standard DEI sound. I'd rather be able to see what is going on with the remote. Plus, it's kewl.

By the way- I know several people who have had the 790's since they came out last year - only complaint they have is that the battery has to be changed more often.

Perhaps those people with problems should contact their installer?

I am there installer :D.
For a better refernece.
I have a fellow installer wit the 790, on his thrid remote.
I have another fellow installer that is from circuit sity. His 3 former coworker all had 790's and all have replaced the remotes.
I have several customers, 4 writen echanges and counting for 790 remotes.
My friend Foote works for a different retialer and he was able to name 5 customers with atleast one remote swap for broken remotes off the top of his head.

I have the previous gen Audiovox system on my car and haven't had any issues...

It was onthe car when I purchases it, so not all of the functionality is actually hooked up, but the alarm parts works great and the range on it is incredible... the 2-way system is great. it already allowed me to catch one f&Cker who slammed his door into my car here at work...

Hmmm..... well, now I am not sure if I want to switch the alarm. I guess I could just buy the add-on pager 795W. I'll have to find out what my friends cost is on it.

I am an installer at Circiut City and I have the Audiovox 2 way system and have no problems what so ever nor have any other people there or customers we have installed for. Unlike the Viper790XV, which is a good unit but has problems. The antenna comes apart easily, the battery life is really short even when you turn off the vibrate mode, the remotes don't hold up well when dropped (I have dropped my audiovox numerous times and haven't had a problem), only 1 remote comes with it so if you lose or break it you are screwed until you get another, the motor that does the vibrate mode comes unsoldered from the board, and dosen't come close to the amount of extra channels that the Audiovox has. Please do not flame me if you own a Viper 790XV, I am just posting what I have seen.

Wow, nice job on your car! I just checked your sounddomain page, very nice. I like the headrest covers. How much were the accele monitors?

I worked at CC#3692 in Brick NJ for 3 years. It was fun, but the money just wasn't there.

No one had better flame you for just expressing your experience.

We dont take kindly to that around these parts (getsome)

Well, that doesn't sound too promising for the Viper, I guess. Sh!t, now I want to go with the Audiovox. I ordered one off of ebay for $161 shipped.

Hey 1st, you were right on the Viper remotes, just had one of my installers come in with the antenna nub gone from the top of his remote yesterday. It fell off while he was driving to work.:)
I actually like the Audiovox alarms but I do have to say that their manuals aren't always the most clearly written

I think I will get the audiovox too, if I can get my discount applied to it :D
