BEGI kit install=minor problems on MP3

OK,

It looks like changing the pistons out would be somwhere around $1k to do. Damn. (argh) I could ask my Credit union for another $1k, buy the shop manual and do it myself, or try to trade in for the Mazdaspeed. THE CHOICES!!!(wiggle)

Heya Linux,
Just a thought - if you're struggling coming up with sources of $$$ for the turbo/pistons etc, think of struggling to come up with cash to quickly fix any problems you might have so you can continue using your car. It *might* be in your best interest to trade-in for a MazdaSpeed so you get the warranty that comes with the turbo. Good luck with whatever you decide to do.

He does have a good point. Don't go turbo if you can barely afford it...you definitely need some $ for reserve.

I got approved for the additional $1k which brings the total of my loan to $4100. My payments will be about $130 /mo. So this is just like paying on a $20,000 car, but with more power, and without the hasstle of loosing or taking out all the s*** I put into it. Plus it looks like it will have more power! :D I also expect to get a nice bonus at the begining of next year to pay this off quickly.

Still Running @ 5psi

Hey guys just a little update here....after 1 full week of boost and two downpipe gaskets (finally got a good steel one)everything is running good. I just talked to corky about the fuel situation and he said there not sure about the fuel pump situation yet he seemed to run his P5 fine at 8psi...but Bill at FM is having problems.(too rich I believe) I'm at 68psi of fuel at full boost (5) . which is way too rich:eek: I'm going to make some adjustments even though the car is not bogging down I am having a little bit of black smoke from the exhaust where its running to rich. This weekend I'm goin up to 6psi and adjusting the fuel pressure a bit and hopefully first of the week get my exhaust system set up..

I'll keep you guys posted !!! :D

Yeah...I was implying that he was not sure about running 8psi with the stock pump.

OIC...We'll have to wait and see what ends up being the case overall. The MP3 is a slightly different deal that the regualr Protege, you might want to wait before you start turning things up.

Hey guys... next week I'm having a ACT clutch installed w/ a fidanza flywheel and also my 3" HKS exhaust from the first cat back w/ resonator. And then the boost will be set to 6psi....

But for now no problems :D everything is running GREAT! I've adjusted my fuel psi a little and I'm not running as rich as I was but I'm still running rich... and the car is running alot smoother all the way to the redline.

I'll keep ya posted.

whats your max fuel pressure, mine stops at 80 PSI also whats the cost for the dealer to put in the clutch/flywheel?

I'm running 67 psi of fuel at full throttle (5 psi of boost). you're running 80 at 6psi? I'm not sure what the dealer price on installing the Clutch/ Flywheel is. I'm having it done basically for nothing through people at work.. I might be done w/ the dealership for a little while..

No i am running 80 PSI of fuel at 8 PSI of boost. My waste gate came set for 8 PSI and I have no desire to take half the system apart to set it back.
