Looking for opinions from those who know these vehicles better than I. It's a '95 Protoge LX. I just replaced the drive axle/cv assemblys as it was clicking while turning and it was obvious the rubber boots were shot. Okay, nice and smooth now, no clicking. However, I still have a noise that is best described as a wheel bearing gone bad. It increases in intensity as speed increases and diminishes slightly as cornering transfers weight from side to side. On the way home today, as I crested a hill, I thought it almost stopped for a second as the weight of the car on the suspension was lessened. Now this car needs a lot of help and I'm not very familiar with them, so I'm going to ask some dumb questions.... It's needed shocks/struts for some time. Could this be contributing to the noise? I looked in the manual for anything related to wheel bearings but found nothing. When I did the drive axles, I didn't pay any attention to the hubs. Thinking about the way it went together though, I don't know that there are bearings in these hubs? So what I'm thinking at this point is maybe a bearing somewhere within the transaxle assembly itself? Please educate the Mazda newbe if you will. Thanks in advance for an input.
