Battery light goes on when IAT sensor is unplugged

So I've been trying to chase down a weird acceleration problem on my car, so I decided to try unplugging a few sensors to see if that had any effect. One of the sensors I tried disconnecting was my intake air temperature (IAT) sensor which is right next to the air filter.

The weird thing is that when I unplug this sensor, my battery light comes on, as if my alternator isn't working. This doesn't happen with any other sensor, and it goes off as soon as I plug the IAT sensor back in.

Anyone have any ideas on what is going on here?

Yeah, I just resigned myself to the fact that this happens - I'm not sure why Mazda's engineers were weird with this.

If you look at a wire diagram for the p5. They seem to be integral systems..
