Bad smell when moonroof is open

Hello everyone, i have a protege5 2002 and I have a problem with bad smell when I open my moonroof. The problem recently appeared. The smell is like when you have an old A/C that has bacteria in the system (like moisture odor). I can't wash inside the moonroof compartment. Can anyone help me please.

Umm, my advice, if you think its water buildup somewhere, leave it in the sun for awhile. Otherwise try Febreeze.

Okay, so this is going to be a first for me, but I randomly peruse protegeclub.com and someone over there's car was just diagnosed with clogged sunroof drain-tubes... Apparantly our sunroofs have tubes that run down into the wheel wells. Perhaps you've got something nasty stuck up in there... SHould be at the front corners...As far as claning the rest of the area. A little simple green and some shoprags go a long ways.

Yeah, its definetly water in your roof system somewhere. My friends cougar had the same problem. Her liner was not sealed all the way and water got inside the roof line. It smelled like ass. The dealer wanted $1350 to fix it. She ended up going to a friend of ours who works at an auto fabrication shop and he hooked her up but he still bitches about how hard it was.
