b and m shortshifter

ok i got my b and m short shifter in today and im trying to install the b**** and everthing is fine its all asymbled but wtf i cant find how the snap ring goes on.... as far as i can tell i dont even need it cuz everything engages fine, it doesnt like pop in and out of the hole or nething. and i cant see how the snapring workx ne one have this shifter?

The snapring goes back in where it came out of, the groove around the upper part of the shifter hole. You NEED to put it in. The whole shifter will pop out if it's not put in.

If you can't see the groove, the shifter isn't set all the way in where it's supposed to be.

I had the same problem
here is what you do
Take the shifter out. Grease the s*** out of the hole into which the shifter goes. Put the shifter back in.
press on the top of the rod like hell (maybe even screw the knob on it). It will snap in i promise : )

I didn't re-use the retaining clip either and mine has shown no problems, I will re-install it tonight and see if it makes a difference, glad I came across this post.

ok well i didnt put it in yet and yes no problems.... i couldnt figure it out we looked at that s*** forever, i guess i could greese the hell out of it and try to snap it down like u said that makes some sense but im going to wait a lil bit on it but ill def take it all apart again

It's a b**** but it goes back in the exact same place it came out of... It took me and a friend ~45 minutes to get it back in.

Seriously, do whatever you can to get that clip on; it matters - you might think that the friction fit in the hole will keep the shifter there, but people on here have had the shifter pop out when least expected (not that you can really expect it).

Also, get better grease; trust me...I used the stuff B&M provided and even got some other white lithium out to use. I decided to try the stuff I had in my grease gun (the Durablend) and it made a world of difference.

hey how much lower does the ss make the shifter? like lower than the mp3 stock shifter? or does it make it about the same?

the b and m didnt lower it much prolly an inch or so well i guess it is gong to lower it abot another inch what i get it in. but the throws on it are great i didnt want a shifter that lowerd to much cuz i like resting my elbow on the middle console and hand on shifter. i thought stock hieght was good for this
