AWD Mazdaspeed3

HaHa, I will love to see the look on his face. I guess you'll get banned for life from that Mazda dealership.

and any body that has to smog in cali. well its still legal they cant fail you. but you wont have ot do the Dyno smog, just they sit there and idle the car. (usually passes better).
i checked inot it with a few smog techs. which only if all the smog crap is on the motor in stock form. they cant fail you for being AWD.

S4's are cool, but the ms3 will outhandle it any day, even stock. Awd isn't always faster, just more confidence insipring. If it was faster, every race car in the world would run it and not rwd. but f1, le mans, everyone runs rwd. its superior for speedy handling. rwd>awd>fwd.

Uh...what?

Audi dominated the ALMS for a decade. So many sanctions were imposed because they were in fact, too fast. There is a lot more going on in F1 and Le Mans than just drive-train layout. Aerodynamics and downforce characteristics play probably the biggest factor in the handling ability of F1 cars. AWD systems aren't in place with those vehicles due to weight, size, and really because they don't need it with all the other systems in place.

Another example would be the ETCC and DTM where Audi is not allowed to use their quattro systems. Does that make RWD faster? No, it's just standardized to keep everyone on an even playing field.

Moreover, the current lap record at Tsukuba Circuit is set by an Evo.

It usually helps if you know what you're talking about too. I'd love to see you try and "out-handle" similarly equipped S4. Let me tell you, after running a completely gutted and built protege on road courses, I've never been able to "out-handle" my friends Stasis prepped B5 S4. Stock? Sure, I don't see why not as they are designed for comfort in stock trim. But similarly equipped, they'll leave you in the weeds.

IMO, a RWD car with decent weight distribution and a solid LSD is just as good, if not better than an AWD car, which usually are so bulky, due to the transmission. I'd be more interested in transferring ALL power to the rear wheels, parasitic loss and all. You can always make power. There's also more to superior handling than just drivetrain.

Also: well put, Hambino. :D

Did you know there was more than one class of le mans? how many other classes are "dominated" by awd cars? If awd was the way to build the fastest cars, every sactioning body of racing would make awd the standard. And wtf are you talking about, Tsukuba? Seriously? You watch way to much Best Motoring dude, it's not like Tsukuba is considered the greatest race track in the world. I could name 1,000 tracks that have their fastest time set by rwd cars, what does Tskuba prove? That is the most ridiculous thing I have heard, "Evo is made fast on Tskuba, awd must be teh fastest ever!!"

And what do you mean by similaraly equipped? My ms3 is stock, the ms3 will outhandle the 2001 s4 stock for stock, I gurantee you it would. And who does audi compete with in alms? Creation, Lola, and Zytek. No one puts anywhere near as much money as they do into their class. Ferrari could easily come in and destroy it if they threw a bunch of money at it. F1 is the worlds racing standard, and as long as they use rwd, then rwd>awd. If you wanted to impress me with lap times on important tracks, you would have told me the new gtr ran a 7:38 at the nurburing. Thats only because the thing has like 500 hp though.

So until f1 switches to awd, porches most expensive and fastest models (gt series cars, gt2, gt3, carrera gt), ferrari makes ANY awd car, the mcclaren f1 suddenly becomes awd, and lamborghinis stop getting their asses handed to them by all the above mentioned cars on the nurburing, then I stand by my original statement, rwd>awd>fwd.

p.s., I do know what I am talking about.

Here is a link for you, the Lamborghini lp640, the fastest most powerful, most expensive awd car ever available for sale, is only two seconds faster than a 70k chevy. You'll notice every car prior to that is rwd.

this part especially confuses me, seeing as how I said that stock for stock the s4 cant keep up with an ms3 in the twisties, what the hell do you mean similaraly equipped? stock for stock is as similarly equipped as it gets. I never insinuated anything more than stock and I never said my car was more than stock, the things you posted make me feel dumber.

Hmmm.... NO, The fastest awd car ever made is the Bugatti Veyron 16.4:
1000Hp @ 6000 rpm
923lb-ft @ 2200 rpm
0-60mph 2.5 sec
Top Speed 253 Mph

At Nurburing they actually tied. But so what? Tell me you own either, I still wouldn't be impressed. Ever fired a M1A1 tank though? How about a M2 Brad? Or F16 Viper? Do that, and I'm impressed. Apples and oranges, I know- just validating your points. Peace.

has anyone seen the vidio of our car at the ring? ill see if i can find the link. as far as Tsukuba if is a short tight track which will favor a high horspower AWD car beacuse it can put all its power down sooner and it dasn't get fast enough to start seeing the drivetreain losses with the AWD system. every drivetrain layout has its own set of advantages and it own set of drawbacks. i was also going to bring up the ring and how the GT-R pulled of 5 for production cars. the only ones ahead of it were Porsche Carrera GT 7'28" Porsche 997 GT2 7'32" Pagani Zonda F 7'33" Koenigsegg CCR 7'34" Nissan GT-R 7'35" mazda 3 MPS 8'39.66"
here is one of the vidios not the one i was looking for but its good

You've obviously never tried racing an S4 on a road course. Keep digging. I see a lot of conjecture and nonsense. If Ferrari could so easily come in and dominate, why don't they. Speed GT is very stiff competition and most of those cars are in fact FR and extremely fast. Faster than the Audi's in a straight line, it's only in the corners where the Audi's gain momentum. What are you blathering on about Nuremberg for? The public course doesn't count for anything unless you are taking about the formula one circuit.

You're making a lot of excuses and acting as if drive-layout alone is what determines how great a car is. You appear to have never owned an AWD vehicle, so be my guest, keep going. Because what? You own a 240 you believe you are the pinnacle of motor-sports knowledge? Give me a break.

Moreover, of course 95% of the lap-records are set by FR's. The are Formula 1 cars. Nice move. Go take your stock MS3 back the autocross and rip on some DSM's. Those guy's usually deserve it. Meantime, if you're quite finished, stop trying classify one thing is better than the other when it varies so much. There are so many factors involved that is why one is used over the other depending on it's application.

As long as F1 is the racing standard. Christ, do you hear yourself talk? They don't need AWD when they are only concerned about weight and downforce. Ever see an F1 car lose down-force? Featherweight and ridiculous power doesn't bode well for them gaining traction.

These are the type of ridiculous internet arguments that go absolutely nowhere. Go through your lab-coat on and determine if a RWD Evo is faster than an AWD Evo. Or maybe an AWD Geo metro vs. a RWD metro?

Who cares. There is no correct answer and stupid statements like RWD>AWD>FWD immediately flags you as a moron. Godspeed.

ok, your right. Ferrari doesn't compete in alms because they couldn't win, your a genious. And porsche and ferrari focus on rwd cars because they don't know how to build fast cars.

I never said owning a 240sx makes me smart, i just said ferrari, porche, pagani, mclaren, mercedes and koenessiag are smart, and they build rwd cars. I never said fr cars are the best, the best is probably mid engine, rwd. You race a protege and are trying to knock me for racing one of the most perfectly balanced vehicles ever made (sr20det 240sx), your right, I am the idiot.

Well, I was quoting X'ed. If you go back and read, he said the Lambo was the fastest awd car ever made, which is incorrect.

And I haven't fire a M1A1, but been inside and seen how it works. Peace. (second)

I had a 2000 S4 and what a chunk of s*** that thing was. I paid $52000 out the door for it in 2000 which was very expensive back than and out of 2 yrs of ownership, it was in the shop for 14 months off and on. Audi bought it back from me. When it ran, it was a strong car. I had a box of parts to mod it that i was never even able to use. Stage 2 kit went on ebay to some lucky guy whose S4 ran perfectly.

The S4 was considered a luxury sedan, certainly not known as a handling monster. A M3 of those days would hand its ass to it from a handling aspect, but the S4 would virtually blow everything out of the water in a straight line in its day.

Whats wrong with racing Proteges? Probably the most dominate make in the Stock-C class. I've said it a couple times now and it merits repeating. Drive-train layout alone does not determine the capability of a machine. By the way, Ferrari does compete in the ALMS in the GT2 class.

Thats actually prodrive genious, they run a ferrari, not actually ferrari. Keep trying though.

And to the above guy, I was referring to the Lambo lp640, which is the fastest awd car at the nurburing. should have clarified.

You didn't specify. You said Ferrari. Keep trying though? Get real dude. How much seat time have you had? Thought so.

What does my seat time have to do? And yes, I did specify, I said Ferrari would crush them if they wanted to, because they dedicate more money to racing than other teams, I didn't say Prodrive. And, again, who does audi compete against in their class? A bunch of no name independant companies, thats who. Ferrari hasn't really wanted to fully dedicate itself to le mans ever since ford cleaned their clocks in the 60's, and you know why Ford did? Because they had more money. The teams with the most money (i.e. Chevy and Audi) are the ones that win in le mans. So does honda compete because mugen is a competitor and honda makes cars for honda? No, I don't think so.

And I have six events under my belt, more to come, just have to finish building the 240sx.
