Dude..I was discussing this with some local guys a while back as they have been tuning with it on mustangs around here and getting good results.
SO no..not your idea..LOL!
But not really mine eiter.
I say go for it...but make sure you monitor the AF and the Det...for sure.
Think about it all you want sir. I'm gonna do it....(drive2)

Per unit of volume compared to gasoline Ethanol releases alot less energy. Alot of people see the octane number and get all excited... You won't ever find me or anyone else up here running E85 on a performance car.
Yes..Per unit of Volume..but its cheaper..for one....Becoming more readily available..and works VERY well with boosted applications..Much better than Gasoline.
It allows for a lot mor aggressive timing and more boost which in the end will make more power on the same motor because of its characteristics.
Its new..I expect there to be a lot of Skeptics....But in due time a lot of people will see its benefeits when used in the right applications.
There are a lot of people who have switched over to E85 and now make more power on the same setup because of the ability to get more aggressive with the tune and still be safe on it as well.
Its all in how you look at it and what your goals are.
I would be more than happy to try it..and I just might...Only time will tell.
Fredo, there are a bunch of different reasons to not do this.
Economically: You'll lose money. It was previously stated that you would need 30% more fuel. I don't know that number, so to be the devil's advocate, let us round down to 20%. The cost of E85 from the gas stations (across the US) is around 5 to 10% cheaper than gas. We'll go high and say 10%. Let us also assume that this 10% is based off of regular gas. So add another 5% to make up between 93 and 87. Right there you are still in the negative 5%.
Thermal Response: E85 has approx. 52% of the thermal energy of Gasoline by volume. Iirc, the efficiency of a gasoline combustion engine is around 27% (I could be off by this number, but not by much). Which means that you're losing half the power by switching to E85. Even if we go with a third (as most people claim 65% based on N/A applications), it means that your 27% efficiency (aka power) is now cut to 18%.
EDIT: These numbers were based off AFR's and not the specific energies of Gasoline and Ethanol in a boosted application. I also forgot to mention that an Ethanol molecule weighs more than a Gasoline one, so even though the specific energy of Ethanol is higher than Gasoline by ~9 MJ, there is a good chance to have "less" of these molecules in any random chamber (temperatures play an important role in determining this).
Compression: E85 is great for High compression engines. It still lacks in economics and power. Don't forget, sir, that you just lowered your CR! High CR is VERY different than High Compression! Also remember that performance cars (indy cars) that are using ethanol rev to 10k, weigh 1500 lbs and have a CR of 14.5:1. They are N/A and they use 100% ethanol.
If you want to add power and decrease the chance of detonation, go get the new 1 series

And third you are using your big brain again in trying to convince me the world is a horrible place and that Ethanol is a bad idea. FINE! I'll try methanol instead. What are the numbers on that?

meth requires a 4.5:1 AFR. It's specific energy greater than both ethanol and gasoline. You'll use alot more methanol, though. That's why people do it as a "shot" instead of running pure meth. (not to be confused with crystal meth you friggin tree hugging hippie).
If you really want more power, run a gallon of aviation fuel (what we would call "jet fuel" although they are different) with every tank of gas. Then do a 50cc or 100cc shot of N2O.
btw, I was expecting more than high 13's for your car... very disappointing!

Oh it's back in Florida parked under a tree in my complex on the corner spot with the mirrors flexed in and waiting for my arrival. I've been in Washington DC for two weeks now which is why I miss her.
I'm gonna be here for some time but she's well guarded and well watched. It's not goin anywhere since the Haltech is sitting in my room.

I guess you don't know my history.....
OK so i've been back and the car is just the way I left it. I changed the oil the day after I got home and still have yet to wash her after leaving her to sit for two months.
My new plan with the car has changed. No more making it blingy but making it more drive-able. I want to put as much "factory" upgrades as possible incase I need to replace one off parts. The first will most likely be my dear brakes. I LOVE them but I don't need so much money there. My exhaust I want to quiet down DRASTICALLY and lastly is the vibration. I think I noticed a torn rear mount today. :-(
