Aux Input, On Its Way

try plugging something else into it. See if there still is distortion. Like a CD player. The Ipods( or any MP3 player) have a very low output.

Dension Kit Out

Dension have finally released their Icelink for the Protege 5.

But....can anyone post a picture or a link to a picture of the protege 5 HU as I've got a 323 Astina in Australia and am not sure if it uses the same factory stereo.

Also - what does the TEXT button do on your radios?

Thanks.

I'm in Australia too, so I'm wondering the same. I'm waiting for the removal tool to arrive so that I can pull it out and check the connectors on the back. When I'm happy that it'll work, I'll order the Alpine changer interface and aux adapter from discountcarstereo.com; logjamelectronics.com won't ship outside of the USA.

Here's a picture of a US unit from the protege323.tk web site;

It looks the same rougly, except that the power and tune knobs are reversed (possibly due to left hand drive?).

Neo iON IPod interface

Has anyone tried using an IPod interface from a company called Neo iON? I found their interface on the website mp3yourcar.com. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

Troubleshooting the iPod connection

Sorry for taking so long to respond. Anyways I've done some troubleshooting on my setup. I hooked up a discman which was powered through the cigarette lighter, and it sounded crystal clear. Some time later I connected the same discman to the system when it was powered off 2 AA batteries, and I experienced the same distorted sound as with my iPod. The interesting thing is that when I connected it through the cigarette lighter, then disconnected the power adapter (switching to battery), the sound was fine for a few minutes, but slowly degraded to the same buzz as before.

I also tried connecting my iPod through an AC power inverter. In retrospect that seems silly, because the power is going DC -> AC -> DC, but anyways...the sound was even worse when the iPod was powered off the inverter. However, when I disconnected it, it sounded great!!! But then I had the same thing as with the discman, in about 2-3 minutes it had degraded and sounded like crap again.

At this point it seems to me that it's an electrical problem. I'm going to borrow and iPod cigarette adapter from a friend to see if that makes the difference. Another option is to try a ground loop isolator. Anyone more technically inclined know if this sounds like a ground loop issue?

Well, not sure if anyone cares about this or not, but...

I bought the Belkin auto adapter for the iPod, and now the sound is crystal clear in my car. It must have been a grounding problem.

Looks like are two recent options available: Both allow control of the iPod with the factory radio.

http://mp3yourcar.com/ has something called "Neo iOn SP" for $199.99 USD. Part #10052 is listed to be compatible with 02-03 Protege

and

http://densionusa.com has "ice>Link Plus for 2003+ Mazdas" $229.00 USD. Lists Compatibility for:2003-2004 B-Series Truck, 2004 Mazda 3, 2003-2004 Miata, 2003-2004 MPV, 2003-2004 Protg S, 2004 RX8, 2003-2004 Tribute

(notice the "S" not 5 next to Protg)

Does anyone have any info on either of these? At these prices I'd like to get some real world experience before purchasing. I'm off to Google

I'm still waiting for the AuxMod to come out: http://www.sylfex.com/products/auxmod/. Supposedly this would connect to the MD/tape player port on the HU, and would have RCA inputs. In my case, I would buy a RCA to minijack cable to connect my XM radio. Although, it wouldn't allow you to control an ipod from you HU controls. For only $50, this seems like a great deal, except this company keeps delaying the release date of this product--but it sounds like that's a common thing on this thread....

The reason it keeps getting delayed is that that's not really a company, it's a guy with an rx-8, and a few others helping him. This also isn't his only job, so I dont think auxmod is his top priority. It should be out in the next few months he says.

I wonder would the MAZ/PC-ALP auxiliary input converter from discountcarstereo.com work on a 2002 P5 head unit with the 6 disc changer and cassette?? I assume the basic head unit is the same for 2002 or 2003 P5. I just want an aux in to the stock head unit. The reason I was looking at this rather than the other kits, it because if I spent that much ($200 or so), I may as well buy an aftermarket head unit with aux in.

Since I am in desperate need of a line in port I called Logjam the other day. I have a 2002 Protege with the 6 disc changer and minidisc player but I do not have a cassette deck. They told me that it will work on a 2002 with the 6 disc changer. I would just need to press the CD button to change back and forth to it. Based on that I went ahead and ordered both parts and paid extra for 2nd day air. Below is what I ordered and the cost. I will post here how it goes works with the changer and minidisc.

Name Code Qty Each Options
----------------------------------------------------------------
P.I.E. MAZ/PC-ALP CD MAZPCALP 1 79.95
Changer
Interface/Auxiliary Input
Converter
P.I.E. ALP/M-RCA Alpine ALPMRCA 1 29.95
M-Bus Auxiliary Input
Converter
Subtotal 109.90
Shipping 17.87
Tax 0.00
Total 127.77

.....Thinking about it and looking at the pictures from Logjam are these 2 pieces all that I am going to need to do the line in for a MP3 player?

what is the best option for me. I have the z828 kennwood HU and i want to hook my iPod up with/out fm transmitter. For now i have a DLO charger/fm transmitter that works well, just isnt the best of quaility. But it is the bet fm transmitter i have heard so far.

i just want the 30pin ipod connector-HU. with whatever i need in between to get it to work.

buy the kenwood aux input adaptor. it adds a pair of RCA red/white inputs to the headunit. i would then jack the ipod into that

yea, but i dont want to use the headphone jack as the output from the ipod.. Doesnt that make it so you loose the digital quality??

i dunno, is it any different than how i run my carPC (from speaker out to Y-cable to RCA inputs) and listen to mp3s? maybe my ears aren't that discerning :) i'm not extremely picky when it comes to audio

my friend has that setup in his durango for use with his PDA for listening to MP3's, and when i plug my iPod in, i feel it isnt the best of quality.
