But....can anyone post a picture or a link to a picture of the protege 5 HU as I've got a 323 Astina in Australia and am not sure if it uses the same factory stereo.
Also - what does the TEXT button do on your radios?
Thanks.

I hooked up a discman which was powered through the cigarette lighter, and it sounded crystal clear. Some time later I connected the same discman to the system when it was powered off 2 AA batteries, and I experienced the same distorted sound as with my iPod. The interesting thing is that when I connected it through the cigarette lighter, then disconnected the power adapter (switching to battery), the sound was fine for a few minutes, but slowly degraded to the same buzz as before.
I also tried connecting my iPod through an AC power inverter. In retrospect that seems silly, because the power is going DC -> AC -> DC, but anyways...the sound was even worse when the iPod was powered off the inverter. However, when I disconnected it, it sounded great!!! But then I had the same thing as with the discman, in about 2-3 minutes it had degraded and sounded like crap again.
At this point it seems to me that it's an electrical problem. I'm going to borrow and iPod cigarette adapter from a friend to see if that makes the difference. Another option is to try a ground loop isolator. Anyone more technically inclined know if this sounds like a ground loop issue?
The reason it keeps getting delayed is that that's not really a company, it's a guy with an rx-8, and a few others helping him. This also isn't his only job, so I dont think auxmod is his top priority. It should be out in the next few months he says.DrummerJim50 said:I'm still waiting for the AuxMod to come out: http://www.sylfex.com/products/auxmod/. Supposedly this would connect to the MD/tape player port on the HU, and would have RCA inputs. In my case, I would buy a RCA to minijack cable to connect my XM radio. Although, it wouldn't allow you to control an ipod from you HU controls. For only $50, this seems like a great deal, except this company keeps delaying the release date of this product--but it sounds like that's a common thing on this thread....

I assume the basic head unit is the same for 2002 or 2003 P5. I just want an aux in to the stock head unit. The reason I was looking at this rather than the other kits, it because if I spent that much ($200 or so), I may as well buy an aftermarket head unit with aux in.
Yup.beachfront24 said:Since I am in desperate need of a line in port I called Logjam the other day. I have a 2002 Protege with the 6 disc changer and minidisc player but I do not have a cassette deck. They told me that it will work on a 2002 with the 6 disc changer. I would just need to press the CD button to change back and forth to it. Based on that I went ahead and ordered both parts and paid extra for 2nd day air. Below is what I ordered and the cost. I will post here how it goes works with the changer and minidisc.

.....Thinking about it and looking at the pictures from Logjam are these 2 pieces all that I am going to need to do the line in for a MP3 player?

what is the best option for me. I have the z828 kennwood HU and i want to hook my iPod up with/out fm transmitter. For now i have a DLO charger/fm transmitter that works well, just isnt the best of quaility. But it is the bet fm transmitter i have heard so far.
i just want the 30pin ipod connector-HU. with whatever i need in between to get it to work.
PaulMP3 said:yea, but i dont want to use the headphone jack as the output from the ipod.. Doesnt that make it so you loose the digital quality??
