Autos Planning On Running Boost, PLEASE READ

Re: Re: autos with boost info PLEASE READ AUTOS!

I hate to be a d1ck and argue w/ you here, but this just isn't true. If you were running a sub 10 second car, and you had 1000+hp and a CUSTOM built auto tranny, then yes, what you say is true. But if you think a STOCK P5 auto tranny is better than a STOCK P5 manual tranny, then you'd better do some research. For staters, compare your 1/4 mile times with people with the same power in a MT...you're probably about 1 second off of them.

Either way, it's good to see the research you put into rebuilding your tranny, and thanks for letting us all know.

actually 1000 hp custom built trannys only benifiting... no. take a stock supra manual and a stock supra stick, auto is faster. i chose the auto because i was planning on goin level 10 back then. i was not intending on doin that with my stock auto transmission. anything with power has better advantages with a auto. i was never talking about stock... the word stock is a bad word. ;)

Is there any electronics out there that will decrease the boost while the trani is shifting? And maybe adding boost in 4th gear or something??? That would be very benificial to us guys with autos planning on boosting.. TTY

your foot controls the boost. let off when you shift a bit, and only go to max boost in 4th. i will post pics on how to take your tranny out and put another one in stock and a manual conversion. i am goin to put my new on in tonight.

would it not be easier if some electronics could control it.. :) I know your foot can do it but who wants to take their foot out of the floor?? :) I will be looking into this little idea and I will keep you posted on what can be done.. The problem is seeing when the transmision is shifting! TTY

as far as i know there is nothing like that you speak of. its just proven not to go above 5 psi, i would swtich trannys. do not put anymore money in your auto. get manual. or lentech.

decked have you found out anything new. Just curious. I'am in the process of probably changing cars. I'am looking at a standard ES and making it into a HiBoosted Speed. :) or if I can bargain then a MSP and taking the s*** out and put my Hiboost kit in.

vic, i am replacing my tranny with an OEM one right now just to get the car running because its my daily driver. i will only use 4 psi on this tranny and that is IF i boost, so this will have LOW miles on it and will be for sale soon after i switch it out with a mazdaspeed tranny, the only thing i need to know is axles and hubs. i know the MSP has bigger axles but splines different? i need to know if i have to change my hub assembly also, but my plan is to swap in an MSP with the bigger axles and stage 4 clutch and light flywheel. the autos are HEAVY. i hope it can take 400 whp. I am looking for an fz motor and goin to replace everything from rods to pistons to bearings to having the head pinned and what not. all out bad ass boost happy motor. i will then bolt the tranny and motor together as one and drop it in all at once... its easier to pull the whole motor then it is to just pull the tranny... trust me. ill take some pics tonight of it. peace- trav

and vic, dont you DARE sell your p5 or ill drive down there and kick your ass :D we gots to stick togetha brotha!

i was going to sell it to you for only $350 but i never got your reply

green i couldnt pass this up, its the shiftronics with only 5K miles on it, its like new. and it was shipped from 40 miles away via truck for free... and i gave not alot for it.. dad has connections.

sorry green. i will need your help soon though, found a MSP tranny with LSD and axles for 600. i will do the swap when i get an ecu and stuff.

peace. oh the tranny is in. car runs tomorrow. i welded the actuator at 5 psi... this way i CAN NOT boost higher. hehe. only way, cause if lets me go to 15 ill get it there. :D

Tranny update:

the new tranny is in. if you have to pull an auto tranny out, please get lots of beer and time. its a b****. also the NPt thread busted in my block as i was redoing my oil pressure senders and feed line for the turbo, i got it out and fixed but it was not a good day. i started at 9 am and ending putting the whole thing together at 10 pm. took it out to make sure everything was ok, got pulled over by a cop because " i was swearving" i told him yea im testing it, he said whatever, goodnight and drove off. i have a small leak on driver side because the axle isnt pushed in all the way, ill do that when i get home but its all in. i am welding my actuator at 5 psi. sad i know.

damn travis, dont know what to do. Like I said, no problem yet, but want to be sure that what I do, Ill be happy with.

to be honest, it would have been easier to pull the whole motor with tranny than just the tranny. thats how i will do it next time, built motor and msp tranny dropped in at once.

i still have to push the driver side axle in a bit, have a slight leak.

definitely get that leak taken care of ASAP, or you'll be doing this again. You may want to check the level of fluid too. I'm preaching to the chior here....

i didnt drive it to work, just took it around the block to see. everything is peachy cept that driver side axle, they are a b**** anyways with the clip, nothing a sledge hammer cant fix. ;)

Raybestos powertrain sells kevlar clutch for that tranny, that's what where going to put in mine and the best, you don't have to remove the tranny to change the clutch. I'f your really carefull you can remove the pump and then remove the drum inside the tranny and change the clutch. My protege was manual but for business publicity (work in a tranny shop) and because i'm always at the 1/4 strip where going to convert it to automatic.

With an electronic boost controller you could adjust your boost when changing gear.

changing clutches wont do anything. youd have to mod your ecm and tcu. youd also have to have your stall controlled to go under programmed loads. its VERY expensive to do a auto to handle that much power AND be street friendly. It can be done if you have about 6 grand to blow. talk to chris at lentech, hes the man.

dont forget youll need an entire new firewall front engine wire harness, and new ECU. and new gauge cluster. good luck, peace

I'm not going to use the same has you have in your p5 which is completely electronic, i'm going to use the 90 to 94 tranny, the pressure is controled by a cable and we are making a custom pallet shifter for it like a tiptronic unit and the clutch pack do mather in the build up stock clutch pack will not survive for long.
