Autos Planning On Running Boost, PLEASE READ

..

hey guys if iam gonna change my auto tranny to a manula one the ecu also must be changed right ?

yeah, it needs to be changed, but like I'm sure most people would say. It may be easier to trade in the car for a manual one. Its not work the trouble converting your atx to mtx. If you decide going thru with it good luck.

yeah

iam beware of what u saying but in my case it is that there is a manual protege i found it is a 2000 protege 1.6 mine is a 2002 and they basiclly the same so he wants to trade his manual tranny with my auto one so what u guys sugest?

I really wish I could give my experience on this topic. This past summer I went to Level 10 Performance and had the valve body recalibration service done. They rated it good for 250hp to the wheels. The car's shifts are much quicker and to the point. About a month before this upgrade, I dished out 2200 for a sleeper turbo kit from MAM. Well, if you've been on this forum long enough, you'll know the situation with MAM and basically, I am out 2200 and no turbo. I really was hoping that my first post on this thread was going to be positive one telling you guys that I am pushing 250 at the wheels with an automatic but unfortunately it doesn't look like it's going to happen thanks to MAM. Now I have a 02' ES with a beefed up automatic tranny pushing 96hp. You gotta love it.

HiBoost sells a turbo kit! and it comes with EMS too.

It's hard convincing the wife to let me buy another turbo since I got f*&k on the first one. Trust me, I really want one. I should have gone with the Hiboost right off the bat but hindsight is 20/20. I even have the ems already.

So you had done was the valve body recalibration and thats it? Now the car shifts better and has harder shifts? How much did that cost you? I was looking into doing that for my auto (along with the improved torque converter), but wasn't sure what to think of it.

There is a place in NEW JERSEY that deals with auto tranies so it can
hold 475HP at 458TQ for only $2,500.00 and they do it in a week.

yes. I paid about 1400 for PTS Hydrosystem service for everything installed. The torque converter would have cost another 1400 installed. If you can do the installation yourself, you could probably get the valvebody and torque converter for 1400-1500 maybe. All I can say is that the gears definitely bite. I just wish I had the power to put down.

so the question here was really never answered

Would it benefit to drive theturbo in shift tronic mode vs automatic. this way you have control over shifts? I have been asking this question for 2 days and noone can give me a definite answer

It would make sense that having control of when it shifts up or down would be better, less chance of over reving.

that's something I'm defenitly going to get more information on, the on thing shifttronic does it bring you back down to first gear at a semi complete or full complete stop. I can time myself when its time to shift, really nakes me wish I bought a manual instead of a automatic I never realized how much fun it is to learn and drive a manual

Not sure if I am the only one who has experienced this but there has been times where I have been in the Shiftronic mode and in 1st gear accelerating up to 6500rpm and manually shifted it to 2nd but for some reason it doesn't shift and just bounces off the rev limiter. Usually happens when the car is accelerating very fast and it doesn't have enough time to react to my shift to 2nd so it hits redline. What I do now that never fails is once I get close to redline, I slap the stick into automatic mode and it immediately shifts to second. It actually shifts quicker than in shiftronic mode. Works perfectly and I have never accidentally hit the rev limiter since. So to answer the question which is best to use with a turbo, I would have to say a combination of both.

But if i had to use 1 or the other. i would probably use shifttronic, for the next 2 months im going to be driving in shift tronic to better learn my shift points

I am not sure about you shift ATX guys, but I have a 2002 AT. The way I drive is ease the gas on at first (cause it's tuned rich stock). Then I get on it up till redline, left off gas slightly. It shifts and I start the process over. This is my aggressive driving style of course.

If I was going turbo, it's obvious you need to prepare. Tranny cooler and better fluid. I figure fix the weak parts with better ones. Though I think we need to increase the pressure to make the tranny bite better. I thought I read about someone doing this. Would that NJ upgrade do this?

Is the $2500 tranny upgrade really over kill? Or do they have a lower staged version for people only maybe wanting 300Whp at max? I mean that would be 3 times the stock power.

Also what is the name of the place or do they have a website? I live pretty close to NJ.

Also do they have a LSD or something similar for our trannies?

I was just about to ask the LSD question as well, and how where do you pick up a tranny cooler for a automatic trans too?

Do it in shiftronic and let off the gas like a standard car between gears this will save the transmission.

I don't know if this has been mentioned yet, but I called up Lentech the other day and according to the highly skilled technicians there, a valve body upgrade is plenty good enough to handle 170-190hp and the torque convertor upgrade is not needed unless you race or something like that. I bought the upgraded valve body, so I will make a new thread with an update when I get it and get it in. Later
