finished installing my downpipe last night after sunday night's bolt rounding session. i installed it with the help of my friend matt who is the freckled guy in two of the pictures. and all i can say is wow. i mean the car is a whole different animal. the car pulls so much harder. for the first time i actually scared myslef a little bit. lag and spool are non-existant, i cant watch my boost gauge closely enough to catch when i instantly hit full boost. and the sound is amazing. i mean ait sounds like a i have a v8. i am going to go out now and make some videos, does anyone know how i can post the movies or someone that can host them for me???

In all honesty a DP is a good purchase, however you dont have to go with apex or another company to get one. You can have one custom made at an exhaust shop for around 80 bucks. Granted it wont be stainless steel, but it will have an 02 bung and you can have them put a flex joint in it. It would most likely be made of aluminized steel...

hmmm.....so performance wise, they would be comparable? b/c i really dont feel like spendin $400 on a DP.....

i put the 3inch w/o cats on about a month ago and i still think about whata great purchase I made each and every time i push that little needle past 10

I think they would be comparable to say the least. I don't see why they would give you the exact same gains, at way less the cost. I regret purchasing my DP as I could have gone with a custom DP.

true but i dont mind paying alitte for someones R&D and fit and finish. Plus I love quality work and round here that hard to find

There isnt much RD in a straight pipe design. Also who really notices the finish of a pipe underneath your car? With regards to fitment, custom jobs fit better than any because they are made specifically to each person's car.

the apex pipe is designed perfectly... it fits like a glove. i dont mind pay extra to make sure that the part is perfect. i mean i like to think that the msp would do it for me too. :) as bomex aero states, "forture favors the brave".

ps- i dont really know what the means but i think about it eveytime i do a mod to make sure im doing it right and the way that it should be done.

msp "735:
it shouldnt be a problem... you will need an 02 sensor socket. oh, make sure that you have deep sockets and that they are 6 point sockets. also go to auto zone and buy some "pb's bolt buster". with 2 trips to auto zone, 2 to my uncles house (jack stands, 02 sensor socket) and 3 to the hardware store (sockets, adapter, return 12 pt socket for a 6 pt) it took us about 3 or 4 hours

DAMN! 3-4 hrs...I can swap that bad boy out in about 30-40 mins and that includes wiring up the MIL eliminator...

You guys must have been stopping for the good ol "BEER" break!(nana)

Yeah, I've heard it's quite easy and takes less than an hour, I'm just lazy and have mine in the trunk for over a week now, does anyone know if the catless apex downpipe with stock exhaust is a cop noise target, I've heard it's not too bad. I kept the stock exhaust and have an exhaust cut-off which is located right behind the rear gasket so all I have to do is hit the switch and there's no back pressure.

The gains from a DP are decent, but it does not make the car feel like a V8.
I agree $400 for a DP is way too much and it is not even SS. I bought my Thermal catback SS for $550.

I bought my DP used for 200 bux I think, I don't care about it being new and paying full price is just not an option for me right now. I figure the DP will last as long as I have the car, either I'll total it or blow the engine anyway.

not to be a weiner, but i said that it sounded like a v8. thanks.

ohh and forcefed, we sure did... beer is a must have while doing anything related to installs

$550 for a catback ? jeeze...i dunno, just personal opinion, but that's a grip of money to be spending on pipe. aren't there cheaper alternatives ?

Im running the stock c back with the c less dp and you can barely tell the diff. My wife says she cant even tell. I can of course only slightly at certain times
