anyone watch UFC?

If this crap continues UFC will fall back into the dark recesses it went thru after everyone got sick of watching two buff dudes wrestle for 1/2 an hour and never really fight at all... noone wants to see someone lose because they have some meathead laying on top of them the whole fight...

Is it that you just don't get the ground game? I for one find the ground wrestling just as exciting as stand up. The more i hear s*** like this about how boring it is the more i realize that noone has any idea the subtlties of being on the mat. If you want shear stand up go watch bob sapp.

Ha ! (hah) I've studied judo for over 10 years, and what's affectionately become known as "brazilian jiu jitsu" formerly "gracie jiu jitsu" .....and I'm versed & probably qualified to teach some of both. Me and a few friends have even considered fighting in 'king of the cage' matches when they come thru town, but in my main fighting system the philo is "What works - works, what doesnt - does not" and I'm a little too atuned to that - so therefore if I had some person who was too afraid of getting hit in the face to really fight, and just wanted to lay on top of me.... After about 60 seconds I'd probably rip their eye out or press my thumb into their ear until they were dead.

the more you talk s*** to people you dont even know - the more you'll realize that you dont even know what the **** you're talking about.
so why dont you save your stupid comments for something you DO know about. (hah)

A guy laying ontop of the other guy is not wrestling its resting...now if you want a good example of gracie jujitsu watch the TUF Season 2 finale with Nick Diaz and Diego Sanchez..those boys can roll.

if I was judging the diaz vs sanchez fight: I'd have given Diaz rounds 2 and 3, because it was obvious sanchez was afraid of getting hit.... And like I said, they could have fought all night long and sanchez would have never hurt diaz, but pretty soon diaz would have knocked sanchez TFO.

the ufc needs to have longer fights on live tv. thats the problem.

like that marquart vs salaverry fight. no clear winner. only losers, and noone even landed a punch. I'll never get that 15 minutes of my life back....

Apparently i havent wrestled for 10yrs, am a 3rd degree black belt + a 4 time state teakwondo champion(not that it's a good form of defense/offense but still good for striking and technique) and practice MMA with my buddies on a regular basis. You took direct offense to a comment that wasn't wholey directed at you. I'm sick of people saying thats all they do lay on each other.period. Take it with a grain of salt. About your comment on how you would gouge thier eyes out after 60 seconds. The whole point is not to be in that position in the first place. The rules are setup to make it more sporting other than a death match. You mold your style around the rules. I respect you for your dedication to jui jitsu, but have an open mind that i do know what i'm talking about.

ok, sorry to snap at you, I do know the nuances of ground fighting, most fights outside of kickboxing and tkd do go to the ground... did you see the TUF finale the other night with florian vs. kit cope ? florian was afraid to get hit... and he knew the other guy couldnt defend on the ground.... was like watching a man turn into a b****, then turn back into a man and then start beating up a woman just because he could. then after cope tapped out, florian held him there and locked in the choke for another 3 seconds just to be a dick...

I'd go (fight) with kenny florian any day of the week. for free.

what I said was true tho, after about ultimate fighting 5 or 6, people stopped watching because they either didnt understand what was going on... or they just werent excited about it - and then, ultimate fighting only got popular again after chuck liddell came around.. because people dont want to watch two dudes roll around hugging eachother... it's ghey.

I find much of the ground fighting boring (not counting the active submissions), but I respect it because I know how damn hard it is and how much energy it takes.

Ground fighting is necessary, but I would like to see the refs step in a little more and stand the fighters up after a few seconds of inactivity.

Great fights on the latest UFC.

We're all friends now yey :) Kit Cope is a damn good kick boxer and striker. And if florian had to go toe to toe he'd get murdered. I do have to give florian credit for how quickly he switched from striking to that arm bar. In the replay it was about as smooth and quick of a transition as could be expected. It really caught Cope off gaurd.

yeah, but he still held that choke for an "unprofessional" ammout of time....
I mean... cope was tapping florians leg, florian knew he was tapping... and the look on his face when he got up... I'd almost go pro just to have one 5 min round with him.

yeah, sorry to snap at you... I'm a dick.

Yeah the Florian vs Cope kinda sucked...you knew Kit Cope would have ****** Florians s*** up if they had to stay standing, but if Kit wanted to stay standing he shoudl have stuck with K1..in any case..ground fighting can be really good s***, but the refs really , really need to step in when they guy just starts laying on top of him. From all that Ive seen recently it just seems like there are too few guys that are good at the ground game so when they get taken down they just clench onto the guy and that makes for a boring ass fight.

well, i ended up watching the finale replay and i have to say the joe stevenson and luke cummo match was fantastic. it was non-stop action and both fighters showed that they clearly wanted it. i would have hated to be a judge in that fight because neither one of them deserved to lose. i think the only reason joe won is because he kept taking luke to the mat and the judges saw that as signs of aggression (which scores BIG points with judges). on the other hand luke was constantly being aggressive by getting on his feet and ringing joes bell. luke is a very effective striker and if he ever gets his ground game down hes going to be an excellent fighter.

the rashad evans and brad imes match wasnt as good imo, but it was still a good fight. the only thing i didnt like was that while they did let their fists fly in the last round, neither one of them had any power behind it because they were so exhausted. there were a few times in the match that the ref could have stopped it after rashad clocked brad and sent him to the mat. ive seen guys take far less punishment befor ethe ref steps in and calls it.

so now that tuf2 is over we can look forward to tuf3. the crappy part is that it doesnt air until 'spring 2006,' which means we have to watch re-runs of old matches until then with the occasional ppv.

there's always Vale tudo, pancrase, pride fighting, k-1 and um... japanese chick fighting, Ill looks up the name of it since I cant remember it now....

i know there are other forms of mma, but i was referring to only ufc events. besides, the only other ones that come on regular cable (non ppv) are old k-1 matches and ufc.

anyone see the ppv? nate quarry got his ass knocked the **** out.

LOL...yes that was the best part of the whole night!

Nate Quarry looked like a manikin as he was going down...wonder what he was dreaming about?
Who has the weak jaw now?...beeatch!

I'm glad Matt Hughes won against Diesel, especially by tapping out.

I thought you doos might be interested to know that forrest griffin & tito ortiz will fight in april (?) and tito ortiz & ken shamrock will fight in june as part of the TUF3 finale. and then ortiz fights the winner of the Liddell vs Couture rubber match. and David Loiseau will fight Rich Franklin. (dont know exactly when tho) these are matches that will happen, not rumors.
