hi guys,
i would like to make an offer on andrew's NA twiggy cams for my '00 protege FP-DE 1.8L, but wanted to get your collective thoughts and input before making this substantial investment. i'd love to hear the experiences of any members in california who were part of the group buy a few years back, and to get feedback as to the performance and streetability of these cams. more specifically, i'd like to know if the car would still pass california smog emissions after having these installed?
fwiw, i've been told that these cams are a direct fit and are pretty much plug and play, with no need for cam gears. also, that these cams are much the same as those fabricated for the group buy, except that these close and open a little differently - essentially on a shallower path so the valves don't stuff the head over time. other than that, they are the same or within a % or 2.
i don't intend on going through the trouble of installing a turbo in the future, so these cams would be the most radical modification that i would make to the car's engine. my mechanic has informed me that he has installed several performance cams on civics that HAVE passed california smog, and that various honda forums actually list which cams can be used, but since proteges have a smaller following, he has suggested that i invoke the collective wisdom of the tuning gurus on this forum.
please help!!
