Anyone remember my story about my AWOL soldier?

So it's free for companies that lose employees? Not everyone "knows" what they are getting in for. Some people join expecting and/or hoping for a paticular job and end up getting screwed out of it. So then they say "WOW I'm sure glad I joined the military." At inprocessing they don't tell you everything involved. For the most part, they neglect to really tell you anything. Also, in basic training they never tell you that you have the option to get out. Most people don't learn that you can get a "can't adjust to the military" honorable discharge, but that is only within the first six months. I think it's absolutely asinine that someone has to essentially ruin their life because they don't feel they want to be in the military. Sure they signed and sworn in, but that doesn't mean they knew everything that would happen in the military. That's my .02 cents. I'm not trying to start a flamewar here, just trying to inform the uninformed

if you arent informed of your job before you join, thats your own fault. would you work at mcdonalds without knowing whats entailed? the same applies for the army. there are 100000000 ways to find out about each job, and if you are signing several years of your life away and risking your life, if it was important enough for you to ruin your life to get out, you would think it would be important enough to research before you joined.

EVERYONe, even the stupidest civilian knows that recruiters are full of s***. so if you didnt research, thats on you. (not you, but as in anyone who cant take the army - which is about the simplest job on earth).

Yes, they do inform people about jobs, but they like to switch jobs on people. For instance, someone wants to be a pharmacist technician. At the time they say they don't have the position, so they say you might be able to get the job next year if you want to wait. Of course they don't want to wait. So they say, hey we might be able to get you the job if you go in without a job reservation, but at least you'll be in the medical field. So they join hoping to get that job, and you end up emptying bed pans for four years. Now this is nothing like mcdonalds, they tell you your exact duties, you pretty much know everything involved. They say, you'll be cleaning toilets and this and that. When you go to a recruiter he doesn't say, you'll be a pharmacist technician and OH you'll take the trash out everyday, clean the toilets, and any other stupid detail the person in charge of you feels like 'delegating' to you at that point. It happens, i've seen it a hundred times. So if you do get that job reservation and you've researched that job, it still doesn't necessarily tell you every thing about that job, or extra crap you have to put up with. Some people want to join and work in the JOB they want to work with. They understand deploying and so forth. If you want to get out because you don't want to go to war, then definitely you are waste and retard and have no reason to b****. I'm just saying I understand people who want to get out because of not adjusting to the military. It's a whole different ball game.

i dunno, when i joined, i figured id be a b**** until i got some time in service. it was kinda common sense to me.

they tried that bulls*** with me about the job. just grab your balls and walk out. i had my job i wanted the next day.

I was able to pick the job i wanted and even though I knew the military life wasn't for me, i stuck it out and made the best of it for 4 yrs. now i have a nice fat gi bill and a kick ass job. it just takes a little determination and as matthew puts it..."not being such a pussy"

it is the military, not a civilian corporation that doesn't do jack s*** all day. they have a job to do regardless of what a few unhappy people are complaining about...just my two cents..
