OEM Alarm vs. Aftermarket

Does anyone have experience with the shock sensing alarm module available from mazda for the p5? I really like the keyfob our cars come with and would like to have a real alarm and still control it from the oem remote. If i'm installing myself, would this just be a plug and play or just as hard as installing any other alarm?

thanks

Plug and play. It took me about 90 mins, but I took my time and taped everything up.

does it sense hood opening somehow? I know any decent aftermarket alarm would do this but since this isn't an option on the car i'm questioning.

Only if they somehow set off the shock sensor...

In that case I think i'll opt for an aftermarket alarm.. although who's gonna open the hood to steal the car hmm... The OEM alarm would be a lot cheaper since i could install myself, but I don't know how easy it would be to install an aftermarket one (I did on my old truck and it took sooo long to find all the wires and stuff ugh).

yep it's real easy, i installed the whole factory alar by myself. Just follow the instructions ; )

Yes, anywhere you want to put it... up to the length of the wire. If it is not long enough, you could always splice in some more. Factory location is in the bottom, center of the guage bezel.

i changed the thread title. The OEM alarm seems like a good deal, but would it be worth the extra $$ to get an aftermarket?

I just remembered that I was researching an alarm before and it had an accessory called a "interior pain generator siren" to mount inside the car, this alone makes me want to go aftermarket (imagine the fun trapping your friends inside the car ... the fear in their faces as they ponder what they can do bwa ha ahaha).. oh it's my 101st post woohooo

It's all fun and games until it happens to YOU :) I went for the factory one because it was inexpensive, easy to install and 99% of it is just that it has a flashing LED. If someone really wants in your car, they will get in regardless of what alarm you have.

my foactory shock sensor is so damn sensitive.....its set to the lowest setting and it goes off with cars driving by..........you touch the car it goes off....bump the rim it goes off

so i think the hood is safe
