dunking, whipping, hand pole, going for big game ulua? all this kinda affect where, when, and how.

grew up Big Island..... all we did was camp and fish and dive....
my favorite though is whipping.....
my rig was simple...
10 ft Fenwick pole. Shimano reel.. 50lb test Spider wire on 10 lb test thickness. Blue silver yozuri.. or simple plain black curly tails. no need all that shine or glitter.
if you using floater, bait matters.

well we have a wide lake near our home so we do the usual fishing there..
as for ulua fishing, my ulua pole is down right now i gotta get a new real my conventional one jus broke down..... i usally whip and float, but i do also carry my dunking pole with me....
so yeah n e thing is good..... jus trying to have a good time

What kine reel you use? Debating on selling some of my Ulua gear.

Summer is almost here. Waiting for the Oama run.
Ulua...go Makapuu by the light house...only thing...your car might not be there when you return...and it's a long hike to and from.
It depends on your style of fishing and location. Took me a while to figure out what kind of gear works best for me and finding locations.
Used to go weekly; however, something has come up and when we finally managed to find free time, the car was broken into while less than an hour into fishing. Car hasn't been up to par since. GRRRR! Oh, and last that I know of, DLNR has been checking regularly on camping, drinking, campfires, and fish. Used to get check on regularly.

i tell you all my secret spot since i don't go fishing anymore. This is for the big game Ulua status.
Pounders Beach in La'ie. On the left side of the beach got the pillars from an old boat harbor/dock sticking out of the water. Right on the left side of that.....throw out your line a good amount, and there's a drop off that gets pretty deep. I caught myself a 22lb. Ulua, and my uncle's neighbor.....my uncle lives around the corner hence me fishing there, caught a 102 lb. Black Ulua. CHEERRRRYYY!!!
I just got back into water sports, bodyboarding, and diving for tako, who knows.....my poles are in storage right now....M-Spec/Pro-5 Fishing Car cruise status. haha.

Yeah...it is. LOL Especially when u c your damn bait flying in the oppisite direction then your led gets totally stuck on the retrieve...or you just make A and cannon bomb a few feet infront of you. LOL
May go Kauai in June for fish...maybe bug eszoom and Nutari if I go BI...maybe in July. We see.
