Was out in the snow this weekend to test out my camera, naturally I found that I need some training aswell as better lenses. I did get a couple of ok pictures of the ww2 cannon near my parents house with the proper mood (snow & fog, grim really)

Thanks for all the suggestions. So far I have only ordered the oldfashioned 50mm 1.8, but I'll probably also pick up the 70-300 and the Tokina 11-16 on my trip in March, but I've got another question: What filters can and cant' you live without?

So i am going to get the Canon PowerShot SX30IS for now and then when I find the right deal on an SLR my wife will take the SX.

Yea Im going back and forth and that just seems to make the most sense right now. I think I will start banking some cash so when the T3i comes out I can get that. Prob mid summer. I really want something with flip out screen, Some of the Sonys have really good reviews and really nice set ups but not sure of the SONY DSLR's.

Maybe I get the T2i with just the 18-55 kit and then bank some cash for a better zoom lens?

I don't really agree with that.
Lenses are good, and if you're talking about "upgrading" your current SLR body, that argument might be valid. If you're buying your first one, I'd say get the best one you can afford, and then save up for lenses. When you're just learning to shoot, you're not going to be able to use anything to its fullest potential anyway.

I love my circular polarizer. Really awesome to cut down on reflections and I think it's one of the few filters you can't simulate in post processing.

Ok I found this site, cametacamera.com some pretty good packages, whats everyones opinion?

They have a d3100 kit, both with 18-55 vr, and i can get either the 55-200 VR, or 70-300 NON VR.....some goodies couple filters, camer bag, tripod.......for around 750-800....
