Any photographers in here?

also, 50mm f/1.8 is probably one of the best selling lenses canon makes. Lots of lenses means that they can order components in bulk, which makes them cheaper. Cheaper to make, cheaper to sell.

by that logic they should drop the prices on everything they make. I'd sure be more inclined to buy nicer lenses than my Sigma 70-300 and 18-55. lol

I said cheaper... not free ;)

Materials cost alone is some of these lenses is probably more than you would think... not to mention the process to precisely ground the glass elements and assemble to exacting standards... If you really think about it, a camera lens is a pretty amazing thing.

Haha..no. I don't think it works that way completely. There are still glass pieces inside, the aperture is a big factor, plus the focusing motor if it is an AF lens, plastic vs metal body, weather sealing, metal or plastic lens mounts, the type of AF motor, does it give you full time manual focusing, R&D, etc etc.

Ya I can't wait for the 35mm woot! Maybe by May or June i should have it. :)

...And big, and heavy.

LOOOL. I was just going to go find this picture after reading these posts...

Here's the amazon link. Only $26,000! A steal. I'll sell my MS3 and quit college to buy it...NBD

I didn't specifically say 50mm now did I? There's a reason why the 50 1.8 is super cheap. There's nothing involved in the making of it. Change a few things here and there, the robotic autofocus is ancient, it hunts and seeks all the time, it's loud, noisy, and not as fast as the newer lenses. That is why it's 150 bux. The reason it's popular is the optics are sharp for the price, and the super wide aperture is great for low light. Good value for the person buying it.

yeah, until you bust the AF switch on yur Mk1 by letting it fall out of your bag...

Finally took the plunge and got a new camera yesterday. The Nikon D700 (FX sensor) was just slightly out of the budget, so I ended up with the Nikon D300s (DX Sensor), with a Nikkor DX 18-105mm AF-S lens. I'm loving it so far, and am looking forward to getting some great shots!

I have an extra battery, so my next accessory will be the https://www.amazon.com/dp/ (commissions earned) for about $70. I can't see the need for me to dish out the extra funds for the Nikon MB-D10 Multi Power Battery Pack for about $300 more, since I don't need one THAT rugged.

The next logical big accessory would be a flash. The Nikon SB-900 AF Speedlight is what I have in mind.

Thoughts? Suggesions?

Get a SB-600 or SB-800 used, save money for a prime lens or a larger zoom one, but that depends on what are you going to take photos of.

I was working on trying to retain some detail in the sky using HDR in the afternoon with bright light. All of them looked pretty bleh so I cropped heavily and edited...creatively...lol

you can get the a330 with the 18-55mm kit lens on amazon for $530 new. The 70-300 is about $800 new. That price is surprising. For the gear, I'd say it sounds like a good deal. I think Sony can use Zeiss lenses, which are pretty nice also.

That being said, I can't help but assume that in a year or 2, you'll be selling your sony gear to get canon stuff instead.
just my 2 cents.
