Any photographers in here?

they're really good. the low angle the pics were shot at (probably due to the fact that you were so far away) makes the DOF look tiny!

yeah I was a fair bit away from them, I cropped the elk one as well I believe

the dof on that lens is awesome to begin with, add a FF sensor to it and its even better :)

I was pretty ticked because my 1D blew a shutter blade while I was photographing a coyote so I had to use the 5D the rest of the trip. I had not really used the 500 + 5D but it turned out to be an advantage with the good noise level at 1600. For big animals like this the AF wasnt an issue, but I missed some great eagle / osprey pics because of it :(

I have the 1D Mark II its 8MP, I love it except for the fact the high ISO 1600 is not as good as some of the newer cameras. Having a few more MP would help, I will probably go for the Mark III after xmas once the price comes down a little because of the IV being released this / next week

but the AF system and build quality is amazing, makes most of the other cameras feel like toys, and having complete weather sealing is so nice I never once worried when I was shooting in the pouring rain

wow that is pretty nice. I would love to have a 1dmkIII and a 1dsmkIII in the bag. that way you have everything covered. interesting that you went with a 5d for your full frame... why not the 1ds?

have you seen the price on the 1DS? (rofl2) thats the reason

I dont use FF much so it would be hard to justify, the 1Ds Mark III is still 6100 right now, and I am quite sure once the 1DS IV is released it will be 8k or more because the III was 8k when it was released.

even a 1DS MKII is around 2400 used

5D right now used is around 1100 or so so, the 5D MKII new is 2700

dang. how do you like the 5d? I have to say, I'm trying to decide between a 5d and a 50d... I really want the 50d for the high res lcd and the controls... but the 5d would be nice to be able to jump to full frame when I want to... I'd have to start buying new lenses, though since I think the only EF lens I have is the 50mm f/1.8

just to be clear the 5D is full time full frame, you cant switch it like on the Nikon (which is very limited anyway)

it will only work with EF for sure but all 10 of my lenses are EF now :) I ditched all the EFS ones but really I did not care to much for any of them

for me deciding between them is easy it all depends what your shooting, if its birding for example I would not buy a 5D because of the slower AF and no crop factor

if your shooting people / landscapes / cars then the 5D is really nice

for animals the 5D is good as well as long as they are large / not fast and you have telephoto / super telephoto, when I was in yellowstone I was using the 500L with a 1.4 teleconvertor pretty much the whole time with the 5D

yeah maybe I will stick with the 50d. I just really want a full frame camera for some reason.

yeah everyone seems to think that FF is the only thing to use, I see people whining all the time that the 50D was not FF, then it was the 7D is not FF and I am sure they are doing the same with the 60D.... not everyone wants full frame

in reality FF has its purpose but but its not a perfect fit for every situation for sure

I wouldnt discount the 5D because of the LCD though, other than for the fps which I only use for birding / wildlife I would take 5D over a 50D anyway

yeah, I definitely dig birding and wildlife, which is why I'm tossing between the 5d and 50d... I'm sure I'd be very happy with either.

if you plan to do birds forget the 5D imo, AF is to slow, fps to slow

a 20-50D is a better bet but really its coming down to the lens more than anything

nah not much good because its min focus distance is 400ft lol

man you would need a hell of a tripod for that thing, probably a humvee or something :)

damn that thing must be sweet to use.... to bad no IS lol

Foolin around with the 1:1 105 lens on the D200

Gotta love MicroMachines
