Hi,

new to the forum.

I was a pro photog, but that's my 2ndary gig now.

I've worked for major magazines and the AP.

I'm the 'A' camera operator on the hit TV show 'Samantha Who'.
Worked on many tv series and feature films that alot here probably have seen my work.

My 'famous' stills image is:
Dolphin-surfer.jpg

other work can be seen here:

I'll post pix of my MS3 if I end up getting one for my DD.

cheers,
kujo

ps: I'm a Canon guy and have owned everything from a 15mm FE to the 600 f4L, so if you got a question a lens question feel free to ask and I'll give you an HONEST 'opinion' if I've shot with it.

my 16mo son, putting his hand on my wife's belly, where his twin sisters are awaiting their time........

Canon 5D, LensBaby 3G

since we're all 'CAR' guys/gals here.....

my son Nathaniel learns proper hand placement in Daddy's 335i.
He'll be the 2025 Formula ONE drivers champ if daddy has anything to say about it. ;- )

last kid pic..... but since that's all I have time for these days......
6 month old twin girls and my 2 year old son.... 80 hour work weeks on set...... not much free time as you can imagine, but that's gonna change.

Gonna haul the KART out to the track and start shooting more interesting stuff once we're on Hiatus......

I was asked by a local PD to photograph their new B.A.T. (Blood Alcohol Testing) van and their checkpoint that night.

The checkpoint has some difficulty to it as it has certain requirements.
-limited lighting (basically some 500w halogen lighting and a big balloon light)
-can't use a flash
-all handheld shots with a high enough shutter speed to capture the motion

some other issues but can't think of them off the top of my head, so is there anything I could do to make them a little better?

it depends on your placement....close far middle etc... flash allowed? my best advice is to get some good primes and this will do the job without a flash...something like a 50 1.4 or a 85 1.8.

Shooting Bands don't often need 'Fast' primes, due to the fact that most of the concert lighting are very concentrated LIKO lights.

exposure in the HOT spot of the LIKO will usually be a 4 - 5.6 or more at like 400 asa.

Problem is, when they are OUT of the spots.

Shooting bands is tough in small clubs.
In larger venues it's easier due to better lighting.

Focus will be your main problem/concern.

Don't use flash. It kills the 'feel', the 'mood'.

As Lexi said, if you can get some fast primes, that will help with the AF system in your camera and also give you the ability to shoot in lower light, if it's a small, dingy club with terrible light.

Have fun !!

What club ? I'm in LA as well.

im in Miami, and have no idea what club its gonna be at. thanks for the tips im gonna be given press access so i can get nice and close, so kujo im hoping your tips work cuz buying a prime lens doesnt fall into my budget! (being a poor college student). im gonna keep from zooming at all to keep my f stop lower and im going to work in higher iso's 400-800 probably. i have good noise reduction software so im not entirely worried about shooting in higher iso's

It's crooked. Try straightening it out. I think it would make for a better photo and crop out the door on the right.

idk, i really like it crooked like that, it distorts the perspect. its a classroom building, specificially the physics building at UMiami and i tihnk there's something said in the darkness of the doors to the right and the light shining in from the open outside on the left. the perspective from which i shot it (that crookedness) gives the illusion of being stuck away form the freedom to the left
