Any photographers in here?

Thanks in advance.

Well first we need some information to help you.

How do you plan on using the camera?
How much do you currently know about photography?
If you don't know much, then how much are you willing to learn?
Are you looking to get more into photography in the future?
ow much are you looking to spend? (General price range)

I honestly know nothing about it. i can fool around with settings a bit, but i just mess around until i find something that works (meaning, i really have no idea). Im willing to learn has much as i can, honestly. This camera will almost be exclusively for taking pics of my car. except for a few trips up to the mountain and such. I wouldnt like to spend more that 300, less is obviously better.

honestly if you're looking sub 300, your best shot is the canon SD series.. I have the 800 and i LOVE the wide angle it shoots. look through them pick the features you want and you should be pretty happy. I love my 20D but lacking a wide angle lens, there are times the SD800IS is honestly more than enough camera.

not at 700 bucks. im not looking to spend that much.

if your budget is limited, photography is probably not the best hobby to dive into. You can learn a few things with a decent point & shoot, but a DSLR system will kill your budget. Lenses & accessories add up quickly $$

"willing to learn as much as you can"....well that depends on how much you want to learn. That could be just learning how to turn it on, and take a picture. Question is, how much do you WANT to learn.

A used Canon G9 or G10 is about 300-400 dollars. It's got manual settings, and takes some decent pictures. For what you just described, another point and shoot will be fine for you. No need for an SLR.

Everyone on here is suggesting a Canon SD series point and shoot. I would look at the Panasonics as well.

i was just about to suggest a canon G series, terrific point and shoot, with alot of slr features. i plan on getting one before traveling to europe, because the sheer size of a dslr can be overwhelming in certain traveling situations. i learned on a canon point and shoot. as long as they have aperture and shutter speed priority capabilities and full manual, you can learn alot, and have fun doing it.

Ya I bought a G11 last month. It's alright. ISO 800 and up sucks balls. I like how I can hook up a TTL cord and a small 270EX so I can do somewhat of an off camera flash. Or I can use my radio triggers. I'm taking it travelling with me next month or I'm deciding to get my gear insured and bringing the SLR

If you want into the DSLR market then get a Nikon D40. Awesome entry level body and you can get them used with two kit lenses for sub-500.

I love photography, but do we have any video folks in here as well? I'm just starting to get into it with my T1i. What I can't figure out is how to upload to YouTube the 720HD format.

Here's a quick video I put together. Notice there is no option for formats.
