Picture 1 - it's blurry and out of focus. The lights are casting an unwanted shadow on the hat.

Picture 2 - even lighting but, the shadow is behind her now.

Tips:

Move the subject away from the background. Leave about 6 feet for the shadow to fall flat on the floor behind her.

Using construction lights is creative but put some sort of diffuser in front of them...like a super thin curtain or drape or even a plastic shower curtain. Leave room between the lights and the diffuser. It's probably not powerful enough to shoot through but you can move the lights closer to her.

Try having one light higher and one lower. So that she is more evenly lit.
This is called a clam shell setup. It gets rid of shadows under the brim of the hat and the tip of the nose and under the lower lips. (most of the time).

Make a reflector....big piece of cardboard and wrap it in tin foil. Use it instead of the 2nd light. Try it.

That's it for now :)

I'm considering getting a Nikon D300s when the tax return money shows up. Anyone have any thoughts on that camera?

My wife has the 300 and loves it, I will get a 300S in the near future. In terms of image quality it is exactly the same... I am a part of both the 300 & 300S Flickr groups, you may want to check them out.

I heard the video on it is not as good as it could be though. But I'd just go find a used D300 and save some cash for some wicked lenses or accessories.

I wouldn't be getting this for video. Hmm, I need to see what the actual difference is between the D300 and the D300S...

EDIT: Got it:
