another HID installation thread

I have a plain jane 2002 Protege. What size HIDs do I need? I ask, because the ones that were sent to me are H4. This thread says Proteges take H7. Just want to make sure.

Has anyone installed them? The link above doesn't look very friendly to me. I am really not that handy or have many tools, unfortunately, but every place I've been to wants to charge me $100 for installation. Shall I pay it, or is it easy enough to do it myself? About how long does it take? Realistic & non-smart-ass answers, please!

Does anyone know a place in the DC area - or even Baltimore - that installs for less than $100? Any Protege brother/sister in the area that wants to help out a Protege brother? (help)

Thanks!

the protege 5 low-beams are h7 bulbs

the protege sedan uses only one bulb for both low and high beams, and are h4 bulbs...

you really dont need any tools. All you need is some double sided tape. Hell, overall its a simple plug and play system. Unplug the original plug, and using the instructions plug the wires it tells you too. Took me a total of 20 mins only because I wanted to place them in a not so accessible place. And yes, patmaz is right, our 3rd gen pros use the H4 bulbs.

***EDIT****
hmmm only thing I will add is that from the looks of that thread, it was for a pro5 which uses the h7 bulbs that are only low beams, that means they will have 1 or 2 wires less then our pros.

, tells you exactly how to do it using protephiles techone kit. Cheap and quick install. This one is exactly what you need in terms of what wires go where and it was based on the techone kit, not sure how it will work with the xenonexpert kit

Awesome; thanks guys! It's a relief that I have the right bulbs. If it's THAT easy, then that sucks getting charged $100 for the install!

Suggestions on where to mount the ballasts?

You make it sound so easy. We'll see how I do when I attempt the install this weekend.

some guys mount them behind the front bumper..

i personally installed them just behind the strut tower just before the firewall, there is like a space on each side,so i fitted them right in there!

if you need i can get a picture next week end,car is stored for winter,so i need to go there!

I would absolutely love a picture if it's not too much trouble.

Also, I don't want to blind people (especially cops), (flash) so do I need to aim them at all? Or just plug in and that's it?

Grassy ass

I for one, didnt have to aim them or anything, they where fine and actually never got flashed by oncoming traffic, other have had to reaim them so its more of a test it out and see how it goes. :D

i ll post some pics next week-end,i have to go clean and prepare the car for summer...

for the aimaing,i didnt have to aim anything, they are perfect,i have the bi-xenon kit with the gkare shield over the bulb,so never been flashed either...
