another aussie GB

i knew that ;) LOL

hey i was just having a look on the dba website - how much were the rotors if you dont mind me asking?

Andy last time i spoke to DBA they do not do a disc for the sp20 only for the standard four bolt pattern:'(

(rockon)

I'm tipping that if you got enough of a group buy together you could get slotted blanks from DBA drilled to the 5 bolt pattern.

If you talk to Trevor Sullivan at Brake Distributors of Australia (http://www.brakedistributors.com.au/contact.html) you should find him more than helpful. I paid AUD$125 per rotor when I got my DBA537's.

DBA537 slotted rotors can be bought for about AUD$117 each from http://www.autospeed.com/cgi-bin/browse.cgi?ecomsvr=&category=897&product=1003801529 as a guide.

Hope that helps some, especially if your able to support Australian industry. (2thumbs)

Well you will get something a little more than 20% increased braking torque at the front wheel so that claim is valid. The downside is that at lockup there is more reserve on the rear brakes, so it could be argued that it is a step back from 'optimum' retardation. It is a bit complicated to predict what effect they would have on peak retardation.

Fade resistance should increase with additional mass in the rotor (how much mass though)?

The increased unsprung mass will have a negative effect on road holding (whether or not it will be noticeable I couldn't comment on)

I don't see from the pictures how float between the rotor and the hat is achieved. Usually the fixing bolts are mounted in slots - but the pictures available don't obviously show this.

From memory I think that the DBA5000 series 2 piece rotors for WRX go for about AUD$300 per wheel as a comparison.

Do they supply new rotors only? At what cost?

They certainly look cool, but I still hold my reservations on the durability of cross drilled rotors. Despite what anyone says to the contrary!

Personally if I could get DBA rotors drilled to match your hubs at about 20% [edit... oops should be 30-40%, forgot about the other wheel!!] of the price I know what I would do. Besides what do current SP20 drivers replace worn rotors with? OE? Surely DBA would have a market if they provided an alternate drilling on DBA537? That said I am assuming that the dimensions of the rotors between 1.8 and 2.0L versions are unchanged - just the bolting pattern.

yeah they look pretty sweet to me. definately on the purchasing block.

floating the hat - have a look at www.apracing.com - it explains it well. it's the best way to go in relation to brake rotor design (imo)

what they supply is new rotors and a bracket to move the stock caliper out by the required amount.

but dont worry - i'd get the slotted rotors as they are an option

as far as i was aware the only diff between 1.8 brakes and 2.0 is 5 lugs instead of 4

From the images at rr-racing can you see how they float the hat? I can't - it just looks like they are bolted straight up there.

I guess for individuality in the Australian environment they would hold some cache - but for street USE I question whether the extra cost could be used somewhere more fulfilling LIKE AN EXHAUST!!!

I would prefer a slotted rotor rather than a cross-drilled one.

I spoke with Specialised Brake and Clutch and went round and round in circles.
They reckon the DBA rotors are pad-killers and there aren't any rotors suitable anyway. Dunno.....

Race brakes reckon the go is Corvette C5 front rotors/calipers and pads which fit up OK but takes about a week to do....for $1700.

Same brakes as an HSV Premium front end. Orta stop an Astina pretty good tho'.....

i think i'll go for the rr-racing setup. looks pretty good to me.

and yes, exhaust is on the way - see a new thread shortly :)
