An option for those looking for a switchblade remote keyfob

I don't have a dealership near me. Any reason not to go to a hardware store to get the key cut? Other than to save a few bucks.

hardware store should be fine. their machine is designed to be able to do more stuff (house keys) so it may be lower quality, rougher cut, but thats basically it.

Same place, not exact same piece........

Here's a pic of what I was talking about up a few posts about product inconsistencies with the alibaba place. Take a look at the emblems, the one on the right looks far better and more oem IMO. The spring mechanism was weaker in the one on the left also. The fit of the pieces was better on the first one I ordered too. No cryin, just pointing out the crapshoot on what you may end up with...........

Hardware store will be a few bucks...and the one on the right is what i got. The left one doesn't look like an oemn piece.

my thoughts exactly. Honestly, if I got the one on the left I'd send that pic in and I'd b**** about it. You can deny payment through that site, and getting an item different than whats advertised would be a good enough reason in my book.

Here's some sw blade fob funny for y'all.............I didn't attach key ring to the fob so I just grabbed my truck/house keys and put them in my pocket so I'd have house keys & drove the car to work. Put the steering wheel lock on, put the brake pedal lock on, set the alarm & went in. At lunch, I was gonna drive but didn't grab the house key ring and couldn't get the steering wheel lock or the pedal lock off so we just went in someone else's car. No biggy, even laughed about it. So when I got off work, this was on a Friday, went out to leave and found I had booted my car from the inside. As mentioned above, I grabbed the truck key ring. Well, I have steering wheel locks for both vehicles, that have the 4 sided key on them, but different keys. So I disarmed the alarm, took off the pedal lock & realized I was going nowhere since I brought the wrong set of keys to unlock the steering wheel lock. The pedal lock is shared and that key is on both rings. Guess I focused on that leaving home that day. Live 30 miles from work. Had to go back in work and bum ride home from another dude that lives about 5 miles from me & then piss the wife off when she got home from her 30 mile ride with having to turn around and take me back where she just came from to fetch my car because of what happened. Long story short, she doesn't give a rat's ass bout no ****** sw blade key fob about now, lol.............

LMAO!!!! That sucks!

I had a tiny metal ring I stuck in the opening at the bottom of the FOB and have attached my house key to prevent such a mess hahaha

Got my sw fob with the last group order.

What's the best way to get the sw fob apart? I took it to Mazda to get it cut, but it wouldn't fit in his machine and he couldn't figure out how to take it apart. I don't want to break it so I figured I'd ask here.

Thanks

you can get the blade off my pushing out the pin holding it to the hinge. you can see it with the blade half open. I got mine cut at the dealer fully assembled though.

i just went to a Denault's hardware store down the street and had it cut. i woulda went to my local mazda "dealership" if it wasnt a parking lot full of cars with a small portable as the office.....

So, I finally got the thing apart and took it to the dealership to get cut, and of course, they screw it up. Or at least I'm blaming it on them cause it's easier that way... It doesn't work. Won't go all the way in.

I took it to home depot to see if they can some how fix it, but it wouldn't even go in their machine. He was telling me he thinks the blank was defective because there was a small missing part at the tip. So who knows.

Did any one happen to buy an extra and want to sell it to me?

Or know if I can somehow put a new blank in there?

no, thats been discussed before, and was found not to be an issue.

you COULD (with a substantial amount of work) cut up an OEM key and get the blade in there.

Damn! I took the keyblade off the body and compared it to my original key- they don't match!! Did everyone get the right key? I'll post pics later but the tip of the new one tapers inward but my original goes out closer to the tip. I'm going to a key cutter now to see if this will be an issue. Wagonbacker, I may need to get a new blade- I'll let you know later.

I'm having the same problem I think, unless the dealer just screw up the cut.

How did you get the keyblade off?

Also, what did you end up doing to get it working right?

Like replace it with one of These?
may work, remote isn't the SAME but is similar?

he confirmed that this was in fact not a problem... as I said before. Het got it cut and functioning. compare your 2 keys, if the cuts are the same (minus the irrelivant one on the tip) you have a different problem, but the blank has been confirmed working in more than 10 us and canadian cars, so I don't see that as being the issue.

Geez...$6 to mail a stupid little metal strip.
its fleabay... shipping is either jacked up or free. LOL

Well, the links appear to be dead on this thing, no options on eBay currently....damn, I would totally be interested in ordering one. Anyone know where they went?

Hope this isn't a repost, but what is everybody's thoughts on this:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/01-0...r_Truck_Parts_Accessories?hash=item3a549be719

It's not as OEM looking as the other option, but still looks good, and is about 1/2 price when you factor in buying another remote (btw: where do most people get another remote? eBay?) + buying the shell.

Anybody tried this yet?
Suppose you could. I just don't care for all the chrome on it and IMO, looks as cheap as the price AND...we got nothing in the key that needs programming by the dealership. It is a plain ass key with a key fob. The programming is all in the fob, which you can program with a diy how-to from this forum.
