An option for those looking for a switchblade remote keyfob

My real concern about spending money on this is the quality of the key, I don't want to buy this and end up having a cheap plastic piece of junk.

The fit and finish is between an OEM mazda key and the cheap stuff you get on ebay. Well worth the price IMO. The upper is a genuine Mazda part, so it looks and works great. I love mine!

For real? Actually, if you look closely the quality of the plastic material between the two halves are quite noticeably different. The flip mechanism works quite well all though mine does wiggle a tiny bit while fully open. Gotta get used to that when starting the car. Oh, that, and not pressing a button while turning the key. Not a huge worry- I'll bet the oem one wiggles a bit, too. The one thing that could really improve it would be if the buttons were slightly recessed and it had that little bump between the buttons(ok, 2 things). Overall, a pretty well made item, I give it a 7/10.

For real?

Yep...an OEM mazda part. The wiggling of the key probably has more to do with the replacement blank blade being installed poorly.

Sure it looks different when you look at it from 6 inches away, but any further and it's not enough of a difference to matter IMO. The buttons not being recessed is a downside, but not bad.

Actually,no, the wiggle is in the spring-flip part. I RnR'ed the keyblade myself. That little mofo pin aint goin' nowhere!

I was thinking about trying to get the mz6 buttons to put in the remote as they're likely a slightly different design, might take care of the recessing issue you guys are discussing.

What did you do with your keyblade/pin to make it fit tighter? Mine wiggles at where the blade is attached to the rest of the mechanism and it seems like if I can just fit in a larger pin...

Well nothing, really, it fit quite well to begin with. Don't think you could fit a larger pin in there. I wonder if you took the pin out and torched it, would it flare it out enough to give a tighter fit? I'm glad I didn't have to mess around with it too much, the chrome was getting a little scratched up.

Delrin washer.......but it'd have to miraculously be the right thickness & be cut in one place to finagle it into place. My .02...........not really an issue on mine, for some reason it's not too wiggly.

Damn! I took the keyblade off the body and compared it to my original key- they don't match!! Did everyone get the right key? I'll post pics later but the tip of the new one tapers inward but my original goes out closer to the tip. I'm going to a key cutter now to see if this will be an issue. Wagonbacker, I may need to get a new blade- I'll let you know later.
Did you ever try to get your key cut and see if it worked? I have the same issue with my key. I had the switchbalde key cut at the dealer today and it worked fine.

....yeah, what he said. Just curious, did everyone need the keyblade removed from the flip body to have it cut? That's why my dealership refused to cut mine- he just said it wouldn't fit in his machine.

No, they cut mine together. All together it took 5 minutes to cut out the panic button, get the key cut, and put it all together.

Knockoffs of Knockoffs

Not busting on the recent 2nd group buy guy or nothin like that here. The 2nd one was 1/3 cheaper than the first one I got myself from the alibaba site but......Not sure where the 2nd group buy pieces came from because it seemed to be a knockoff of the alibaba one I got first. I say this because it looked similar but cheaper made. It isn't as nice as the alibaba one in that it wasn't as black-almost gray, the spring is much weaker on the key part, the key part is noticeably wobblier, the case doesn't close as tight & the "M" emblem is cheaper knockoff looking where the alibaba one had oem looking emblem, blacker nicer case, much springier spring action & less key wobble. With that being said, I used only the part with the button holes from the 2nd one to get rid of the panic button that I drilled on the first one. If the 2nd batch came from alibaba then I'd say they have product consistency issues.

The part was ordered directly from Alibaba.

OK then, product supply quality inconsistencies it is....................and I'm OK with it & all, don't get me wrong. It's a known chance we take ordering from overseas that's out of our control on this side of the pond.
