hey i have a question about a display on my stereo, on the right most section, (there are 3 sections, the most left, being the clock, the middle, the cd/radio info, and the most right, from what i remember it was blank
ex: 9:30 l cd trk 9 4:15 l
like that kinda but mine on the most right hand side has the letters AMB on the top, then - - - below where it says AMB, looked in the manual, couldn't find anything about anyone know what this is?????
shag'

The right section is for the automatic-climate control settings (too see how it would look like, just look at a Mazda6 with ACC). But, because the N. American-spec Mazda3 only comes with manual climate controls, this portion of the display stays blanked out. And before anyone asks, yes, the N. American-spec RX-8 has these displays even though it has manual climate controls, but the RX-8 is in a different price zone than the Mazda3.

but mines not blank it has AMB and - - - in it, i know it was blank a week and ahalf ago hen i got it, i just have no clue what AMB means!!!!!

Yes, it should be all blank. I have seen a manual climate-controled Mazda3 say AMB with ---, but don't know what causes it (the one I saw was a pre-production car so who knows what the settings were).

Did you remove the radio/climate controls or otherwise play with it? I would take it to the dealer, but do keep us up to date.

i will keep you guys up dated, and no by the way i have not messed with the controls or setting.

Maybe it's short for Ambient. Why it would show up on a NA spec radio, I don't know.
I don't own a Mazda3 yet...but my dad has a Mazda6 and AMB means Ambient temperature. Maybe it's the same LCD panel as in the 6. The 6 has a temperature gauge which is displayed under AMB. THerefore there is nothing for the 3

The stereo system on my bike has a button marked AMB that richens the sound of the system. In this case, the AMB is short for Ambience. Might be something similar on the 3. I'll check out mine at lunch time.

Yes, the 'AMB' is for ambient temperature. However, N. American-spec Mazda3's don't have the exterior temperature so they blanked out this part of the display for N. American-spec Mazda3's. However, for some reason this display is turning on for shaggin'wagon (and one other person I know) - but because there's no temperature sensor, it just says ---

If it's on your radio, then it's short for "ambience", just as goldwing2000 said (my Goldwing has the same setting). It theoretically enhances the sound quality to make it sound like you're at a concert or something like that.

As I said, AMB means ambient in this case (for the ambient temperature indicator that is available for certain world-spec Mazda3's).

Upon examination of the vehicle, I have to concur with wongpres. If you look closely at the other unused indicators in this area, they are all HVAC related.

Which brings up another question:

How do we, as lowly Americans, get the ATC?? (uhm)

Someone got a quote for the ACC module from the UK - $1,500 + VAT + shipping. Not sure if that $1,500 is US$ or pounds. And even if you get that, there are still about 7 additional sensors that need to be added in (I don't have the exact list of sensors right now but can post it later if you want).

So it's an expensive and difficult retrofit.

so i went to the dealership and the service manager had no clue what AMB ment (he thinks it might be the ambient temp as well) but he had one of his techs come over and look and supposedly the tech had just went to MAZDA School to learn everything about the 3, the scare part is he said, "well it depends what model 3 i had..... here comes the scary part he say there are three diffrent engines offered WTF!!!!!! i thought he was joking i was like are you retarded.... so he proceeds to tell me there is the 2.3, the 2.0, and a 1.8....... i was thinking don't even get near my car... you are a re-re. so anyhoo they told me to call later this week, which i did, i called today, and the service manager called mazda tech line, to no avail yet, but he says one way or another it will be solved, he said they would be more then willing to replace the whole stereo to fix the problem if they can't figure it out. so it will get solved one way or another. i will let ya all know what ends up happening.

Hmmm... difficult I can deal with. Expensive... not so much.

Maybe in a few years I'll find one on eBay. (silly)
