ALL Unichip Questions / Problems

how exactly does the unichip help your car, would it not be mainly air fuel ratios, if so could i not just buy an afc and come out a lil cheaper. im looking for better gas mileage along side power.

I tuned a car on Saturday and the Unichip with 440s does work.

Stock PCM does fight at idle, but a voltage clamp may stabilize the idle better.
Having the AC on seemed to help at idle as well.

is this on the "a" map or on the "b" map with a more heavily modded car? I am close to buying a unichip and have been under the impression that to run my car safely bigger injectors are a must. is this not true? Im aiming for 180-200 whp with tuboback, fmic, intake and boost controller. is my stock fuel system enough to handle this safely for a long time on a good tune?

If you are aiming for 180-200 hp the unichip is an excellent choice. The stock tune should be good and a custom tune should easily get you to 200 whp and beyond. I'm installing my unichip tomorrow and I've got the corksport catless exhaust and injen intake so it should be perfect for me and hopefully it will go well.

The stock fuel system is perfect for the unichip and if you keep you hp goals reasonable there is no reason that you shouldn't have a great performing and reliable car. map B is for RACE GAS ONLY so you shouldn't use it unless your at the track w/race fuel. Also if you take some time and check the threads for trouble shooting you will be rewarded, such as noting that the switches and lables are mixed up on some older unichips and this could lead to problems. I bought an old unichip so I don't know what to expect. I'll update tomorrow.

thank you, that saves me some money. all i want is 180-200 more of a track setup guy than a drag racing guy honestly. a quick nimble car is what im all about. thanks for the input.

Hell Just take your car to a good tuner and you wont even need that trash box they call UniChip.

For The Money you have spent on that piece trash, you could of just gone to the tuner or and bought something that really works and has an Excellent reputation for decades. MSD is the only way to go.

****, I would of saved all kinds of money if I would of never heard of the UniChip Trash Box Company.

I had that same problem and it ended up being the vacuum line to the WG i must of hit it accidentely and there was a small crack in it. After i changed it it was fine

This is a thread for information about the Unichip -- not to e-bash it. If you don't like it, that's fine. But kindly express your opinion with some actual reasons to back it up.

stock injectors are fine for you. If you wanted to up the boost over 12psi or so on a heavily modded car, then you'll need larger injectors/fuel pump. But for moderate boost at or under 10psi you're fine. If you've got intake, exhaust, more boost you'll be at over 200 on a custom uni tune.

just my opinion.
Yes MSD would of worked @ the time (03.5) I had my MSP. I figure if I have not put dought in the mind by what I have said so that you might want to look in to what I have said, so be it. Y'all can waist the money.

Please, lets not make this a bash thread, wow... so many people use the unichip no problems. and it's CHEAP too. my unichip < $400 ,no tuning necessary...just install and done.
I'll let you all know how my install goes tomorrow, but I don't know how much I'll get to test it because we just got a blizzard here tonight.

And what MSD unit would this be?

This one - http://www.msdfuelinjection.com/blaster_efi.html ?

Only thing I notice on their site that looks to do what you are talking about, and that is $1400, won't work with the stock ignition, etc, etc....little different class than the Unichip man.

installed today, car runs good in all settings except for MAJOR BOOST SPIKE. I'm hitting fuel cut unfortunately, but it is very cold today so hopefully in normal temps I can comfortably use the hi boost setting.

I've owned a unichip for quite some time, but it was only on the car for about a week. Things weren't really going right, and under recommendations from others i tried putting it into a friends MSP to see how it worked, and it started smoking!! I put it away after that and haven't messed with it.

My parents are considering helping me pay to get it fixed for my birthday though, which is cool. Its probably gonna be pretty expensive ($85/hour plus parts!!!).

The real turmoil comes with what i should do after its fixed.... should i try putting it back on my car, knowing that i had issues before?? Or should i just sell it off once unichip has put it back to good working order??

Did you use the boost controller it came with? I took mine out cause mine was hitting upwards of 17psi. I think quite a few people stopped using them.

yeah I'm using the boost controler that was from unichip, I'll give it some time because my car seems to like to hit fuel cut in cold weather. In the below zero days in winter I hit fuel cut at full boost at stock 7psi level. Today was 32 degrees so the car was running really nice (my car LOVES cool days at stock boost). I'll see how it goes in warmer weather, and if I don't like it I'll just grab a manual boost controler and set it for around 10psi.

Ur Lucky! My spiked 21psi and held. Till it peferated my block with the # 4 piston rod.
