ALL Unichip Questions / Problems

I reinstalled it over the Thanksgiving holidays. I didn't install the boost solenoid. So far so good. (crosses fingers)

At least my MPG is back up to about 30-31!

I swear I left the house went for a long car ride with my woman and then parked it with more gas than I left with.(wow)

ok, just got a unichip and probably won't install it until it gets warmer. So I'll get into this forum. However...I have a few questions.

1. last winter I had a big problem with studdering/fuel cut, this winter its much better<whatever. My question is, do you think map B would be OK in REALLY cold weather (basically 10 degrees F or below) driving? Would it help out the fuel cut issue?

2. Why does boost cause the fuel cut in really cold weather? I thought cars liked cold weather because there is more oxygen.

so has anyone seen this kind of unichip before?
i just got today, im just confused on how the rewiring is done tho...

...looks kinda old doesn't it, meh

oh btw, i want to put this on my 99 pro ES 1.8 (non-turbo); think this will work?

Open to discussion, has anyone run a water/meth kit with their unichip? I have no idea what the gain in whp would be. I just started reading up on it and it seems like they would compliment each other very well. Granted I'll need to get the chip custom tuned but that's already in the master plan. I think ProfessorMSP is running the combo but can't recall for sure. IMO for $315.00 it seems like a better purchase then an upgraded IC or FMIC.

Here is the link to the thread I started when I took my MSP to get its Unichip tuned to the methanol injection kit I installed: http://www.msprotege.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123684236&highlight=unichip+meets

I also agree with mspHtown, in that I think it is wise to upgrade your intercooler first, and then add the methanol kit on top of thatthis proved to be the way I did things and it has worked out very nicely.

Can the unichip tune WRX 440 injectors? I been hearing that it can tune fine in the higher RPMs but not for idle properly? how many of you have the Unichip with 440s and whats your results? i wanna debunk this myth (if it is a myth).

I believe that MSP's will run very rich with 440's because the UNICHIP will not be able to calculate a proper A/F mix. Don't quote me, this is based on a conversation I had with Boomergt (300whp built msp) a long time ago. He ended up selling and going with the Microtech unit. And this is not because he doesn't believe in the UNICHIP as his current car (G35 coupe) with Twin turbo uses one.

Unichip question

I plan on investing my money into an EMS. thing is, no one's site tells me if the unichip is reprogramable. i mean if im going to spend 700+ on a damn ems it better be programmable. anyone have pics of the software?

programmable? yes... and no..

you cannot program it but some shops can.. but you wont be able to edit anything it at home with a labtop..

There's a sticky at the top of this section that's all about the Unichip -- info as well as any questions anybody has goes there, so we aren't overrun with a bazillion Unichip threads.

This thread has been merged with that one.

To answer your question, the Unichip IS capable of being 'retuned' .. however, not so easily. You have to either hope you have a tuner-shop nearby that has the Unichip software, or you can send it to JDM Sam (a member here on the forums) to tune it for you.

Some other often-said advice -- use the search button. You could've easily found your answer with it.

I'm pretty sure that the Unichip will run fine as long as you get a 'personal tune' with the 440cc injectors. I believe you only run into problems if you try to run the larger injectors with the 'stock' Unichip map.

I'll be finding out the answer to this question personally in the spring, though. :D

Let me know how that goes Rush. I've got some 440's sitting here right now (actually had them since summer). I'd like to get them in soon but will need a tune. Did you say you're going to a shop around you to get the Unichip tuned?

Unichip Info

I'm looking at getting the Unichip because I found someone selling it at a sweet deal but was wondering if its safe to install without replacing the mid-pipe with the mods I have on the car already:

-Injen CAI
-Hard Pipes
-CustomMSP SMIC
-P&P IM w/ VTCS removed

I don't plan on using the boost controller and just leaving it at stock boost...at least for now. I'm just a little paranoid that because of the the restrictive cats it my create far too much back pressure and cause some serious problems or worse (zoom-zoom-boom)

You should be fine then with base maps with those mods let whom ever you are buying it from let them know your mods and they will send it programmed already for you at like 6 psi on the a map and 10 psi on the b map and you should be fine. Enjoy

Your car is near perfect for the base map on the uni. I would free up the exhaust a little to get as much out of it as you can, but you'll be great just plugging it in. The only thing im not so sure is it might not like the VTCS being outta there. I feel like i remember Sam saying something about that being a pain in the ass on tuning when he was doing my chip.

Mine just got dropped off for the methanol install. After that's done we will be putting the 440 injectors in there and retuning for the meth with the Unichip.

Will update with dyno graphs and everything here within the next couple of days.

Okay, well we got the methanol in, but right now the local dyno has a Porsche 911 race car with the suspenion apart in front of the dyno, so no go till next week on the injectors and tune.

From the few light pulls I did with the meth I could definitely tell the difference. It was wet out so I didn't get to hit it too hard, but you can tell when the meth kicks in. It's almost like you don't really gain much horsepower without the tune, but you get your peak HP pull after pull with the cooler charges.

Also, the Snow kit I bought from SpeedCircuit wouldn't work! The tube would have to be too long to mount the larger resevoir in the trunk so we ended up relocating the battery to the trunk, and mounting the meth resevoir where the battery used to be. Looks super clean, but was an unexpected problem with the Snow kit.

Cost me a little more, but it looks so nice, and I don't mind having the battery in the back. So all is good.

I will update next week with the results and graphs.
