air intake/knocking

knocking and bad smell

I've just installed the SRI and have been toying with the bracket to get it to fit high enough away from the brake master cylinder not to knock it in gear with the brakes all the way down...

1) I got that to work and everything seemed ok, but when I pulled out of my driveway, in Drive, anywhere under 1750 RPM, it still seems to knock, I guess due to the engine torquing...???

What can I do about that? I'm going to try to make a hole in the bracket that's a little higher.

2) After installing the SRI, I reset the ECU by disconnecting the - on the battery, hitting the brakes and waiting 5-10 minutes. Now, every once in a while, there's a really bad smell, rotten egg, that comes into the cabin. Is it due to the air/fuel mixture? I mean is it going to go away completely when the ECU has finally recalibrated the air/fuel mixture?

Thanks...

I hear that many other people have the same intake you do and seem to have no problems with it. Yes you are right! The torque twists the engine and it hits the master cylinder. If you have a automatic you can verify this by putting the car in gear and pulling hard on the emergency brake and go take a look under the hood. Is the Ractive intake one piece? The AEM I have is three pieces, so it gives you the opportunity to loosen things up and move it into different configurations to avoid the master cylinder. If your intake is one piece try loosening the hose clamps and pushing it more towards the throttle body. If modifying the bracket does not work one EXTREME measure you can take is to remove the intake and cut off about 1/8 of pipe that faces the throttle body to allow it to move over more to the left (but this would be the EXTREME measure if for some reason you cant ever get the thing to work right.). As for the smell you are getting, my ride did that every once and a while even with the stock intake. Do you have a picture of it installed ?

Sorry, haven't gotten around to the take pics yet...
Does anyone know what the smell is?
A friend of mine said it's sulfer, which is the vaporized oil on the filter reacting with the cat conv. I think it might be that plus the ECU trying to recalibate the air/fuel mixture

Is this the same as the "farting' noise I hear occassionally with my Ebay intake when I accelerate froma stopped position?

No that noise you are suposed to hear. The sound we are talking about sounds like a loud 'click'
