AGHHH, the color choices!! Any thoughts?

Hi all. So we are finalizing our CX-9 purchase today. Our first color choice was black with tan interior - none available in the surrounding three states in the trim we want. So we are trying to choose between White Pearl, Black Cherry, and Copper Red - all with tan interior. (dunno) Neither of us can decide!!! (freak) We are looking at Grand Touring with GT Assist and RES (kids).

Any thoughts on these color choices? I know it's a very personal choice, but I'm wondering if there is anything I should be thinking about like resale, etc.

Thanks again! I'm hoping to post as a proud new owner very soon - first Mazda!!

I think they are all great colors, personally. I'd choose the interior you want first, and then pick the corresponding exterior color that suits your area best. (white for Phoenix, for example, black where it doesn't rain or get too dusty)

The White Pearl has ... duh .. pearl like sheen coating on it. It looks rich and glossy. My 08 Red GT paint looks flat. Not even metallic.

Sigh .. but it was either red or black and black would be worse than red for me. White didn't have all the packages I needed at that time or has a towing package that I do not need for more $$.

SeCX-9 has a CX-7 in White and CX-9 in Blue. Ask him which one looks nicer on a clear day.

In the end it is all subjective. Buy the color you like. It is like buying clothes.

Yup got both. Only had the CX-7 in Pearl White Mica for 6 days now and it's been raining here in central mass for the last month, so I haven't been able to admire the pearl-essence of the new white car. However, I do love the richness of the Stormy Blue. Has a nice shiny metallic sheen.

White will hide surface scratches really well. Rock chips do show. I saw them on another demo unit in the lot.

Blue shows all surface scratches (white primer), I have a few, but it's a nice rich color that hides dirt better.

Both of mine are sand interior, which was the demand of the wife, because she doesn't like hot seats....however, I opend a thread on how to clean the white leather. We have no kids or anything and my drivers seat has some minimal staining already....

Not sure if this helped.....Both are real purdy!(wow)

Here's a photo of our two cars, and the sales guy who sold them to us.

so how do the two compare for ride, handling, performance....

Unfortunately, she's only had the car 6 days and I have not had the opportunity to drive it without her in the car. She does NOT let me open it up and get's pissed when I speed.....needless to say, I haven't really been able to test the turbo from different perspectives. They are both AWD GT models.

Not sure about where you live, but every road in Massachusetts is ripped up and and slowly being re-surfaced thanks to the stimulus package. There are very few cleanly paved stretches of highway here to compare the 2 right now. And I've noticed boatloads of Statey's everywhere. Must be annual ticket competition to see who can write the most.

From what I have driven it so far, interior is almost the same as sitting in my CX-9. Center driver controls seem less complicted but that's because there are no rear air controls or dual-zone for passenger. Great sounding Bose Centerpoint 240 Watt Stereo. Navigation is the exact same POS and has the 2007 Rev 1 DVD maps!

There is NO rear truck release inside the car...WTF.. No electronic open/close either of the rear hatch. No collision detection or auto wipers. No place to store sunglasses. However does include Sirius radio and 6 month subscription which there were no instructions how to get the fre 6 months. I had to call Sirius and they hooked me up.

Rear has less space and is VERY spartan. Rear doors and design are minimalist. Leather is the same cheap quality for the seats. Trunk space isn't bad and the rear seats pop down with the touch of a button which is nice.

Handling: Car definately has pep and doesn't feel as "heavy" as I call the CX-9. It's only 500lbs less weight but the drive by wire seems more responsive. However, as I said, I have not had the opportunity to really "test" the car and see what she can do. Online pro reviews rate the AWD as 0 to 60 in about 8.5secs.

I find the car relays more road noise and is definitaly a stiffer ride than the CX-9. Wife think's there is none, but who am I to argue with her since her last car was an Isuzu Axiom (built on Rodeo frame) that rusted through the frame in 7 years! Car has another POS Goodyear Eagle RSA which all the CX-7'ers say are POS so I plan to get her Parada Spec-X next Tax free day here in MA or before this winter. On the CX-7 forum, users seem to really like that tire on the CX-7 as well. Once my Duehler's run thin, I'll get a pair for my CX-9 as well, even though I bought Blizzaks and rims for winter driving.

I'll let you guys know when I get to really test the "baby" out.

Is the button meant for lowering it from the rear doors or rear hatch? Can you lift it up again from the hatch?

I guess from your observation of the CX-7, it makes sense the RDX cost ~ $7k more, even though both are very similar, except for a somewhat higher end brand (longer warranty, perhaps a little bit nicer material and better appointed) and premium fuel requirement.

No power lift/close gate at all. There is only a manual latch, and key foble black button to press to unlock the doors for the RF proximity. Door is very light and only requires 1 finger to close for my wife, so not like the old heavy doors with bad struts.

We're running 91 octane right now (as opposed to 87 or 93) and we'll see how that goes for now. However it will run on 89 as noted in the manual.

???? Copper Red Mica ????

The mica means "glittery" or metallic as you said. Just washed ours yesterday and it looks great! Pretty metallic if you ask me.

Perhaps a coat of wax would help, but imo my red mica looks dull :( Maybe I'm just bias towards the White Pearl.

I bought the stormy blue. It's hard to find this color on the lot in the twin cities because they sell so quickly. Plenty of black and white vehicles on dealer lots. I've only seen one red. My second choice would have been the black cherry. Very classy color.

Don't forget that color also affects the resale value.
That is if you sell them privately, not trading in (in which case, they probably don't factor in colors).

I went back and forth between the Black Cherry and the Stormy Blue Mica. Wife and I saw a Black Cherry GT at a parking lot the other day and it looked different than what we thought it would be.
Turns out that the dealer had a stormy blue mica on the lot that was cheaper than the black cherry that he would have to bring in from the port. so we just went with the blue mica.
