I know I have seen someone on this board with a aftermarket MSD ignition. I would just like to know what part number and how hard it was to hook it up. Any info is appreciated, thanks in advance.

Wow that has been bothering for a week just had to do searches so as not to repost and could not find anything. whew!!! ;)

I am curious to about this too, dont remember seeing a post but remember a website of a turbod pro with msd. Shoudlnt be hard to install though if it is compatible with are ignition system.

The MSD is not compatable with the style of ignition that we have, the coils are too high a resistance. Thats from MSD's tech. If you want to try it and find out for yourself, you'll need the MSD DIS2 box, bypass connector, and a tach module. MSD lists the tach module seperately, but it's necessary on mazda's to get the correct signal to the fuel pump.

Why not just change the coil or do you mean the signal like on probes. I needed a tach adaptor for my msd6al on my 89 GT..

So 01ESGUY will it work if I replace the coils or will that make the ignition weird and wil I have to tune alot to make it right? Even though that pumps up the price alot having to buy coils but if it work will have a much smoother starting and hopefully running engine.

The dis2 will NOT work as 01ESGUY stated. Our ignition systems are excellent on our cars. We do not have the distributor ignition systems of yesteryear. Our coil packs put out plenty of spark and then some. The only way I see you needing to upgrade your ignition is if you have a fully built motor, turbo or NOS and making 300whp. But at N/A or anything over 300whp is not feasable. If you want a little pep just change out your wires and get some fresh plugs, thats more than sufficient .....ohh I see that you already did that in your sig.....lol
If you plan on going turbo here are some things you can do to get ready and at the same time will give you some perf

ACT clutch
2.5 inch exhaust
A/F meter (halmeter) ect
LSD
stiffer motor mounts(awr)

Hope this helps

Thanks for all your suggestions Spool. But, I already have a 60mm exhaust and my tranmission is a auto so I am going to be a Turbo auto. No need for ACT clutch. I have order in to Rishie for my coilovers, engine mounts, swaybar, and a strut tower bar. Sooner or later I will make it to you for my Turbo stuff, probally after I work out the details of my tranny with level 10. I also have to change my front bumper so I can allow for intercooler, ES bumper is to small. I don't even know what a halmeter ect is so maybe you could educate me. Thank you for info on our ignition, I was thinking along the lines of improving my gas mileage. I am driving from Alaska to Florida for family reunion / Christmas and then Vegas to live this coming December and I am looking for anything to help me along the way. LSD I don't know how that works with auto? Thanks again for any education you can provide.

Looks like you have a good game plan
A halmeter is a brand of a/f meter. They are very accurate for what they are (narrow band o2 sensor) Just dont waste your money on the autometer af meters. And if you can get a wideband o2 thats even better, but they are a little pricey......around 500 dollars but the ultimate tuning tool.

Thanks for your explaination, I appreciate your time.;)

P.S. I will do custom 3" HKS exhaust as soon as I am Turbo. So provided you do very well I will need alot of parts from you. Good Luck on your new buisness.
