AEM dyno

well...the real issue is..they are making a product that is already out there and for limited production cars....none has an sri out! obviously from this debate goin on here half of u like sri's enough to buy one instead of a cai and that mean carket share taken away from ion and injen especially..makes good financial sense to me to make ONLY the SRI...

P.S. AEM_tech...how is it that the SRI costs more than the CAI when the CAI has more material in it...im assuming the R&D is the same...?

I'm not interested in a CAI, but would have bought an SRI. Especially since you can't use a bypass valve on a turbo car.

Oh well!

I also would have purchased the SRI... just purchased a K&N drop-in to tide me over until AEM had this thing in production. Guess I'll be going to Injen when I get sick of all that plastic.

Seriously, AEM Tech- there are a few CAI's already in production and what- 4,000 of these cars in the world? 6,000? I don't know. Anyway, that's a lot of CAI's competing for a limited market.

There are 0 SRI's out there.

If the SRI does really make power, I think you're way better off marketing that. Of course, if it doesn't make power, don't put it out.

Huh? Our cars have bypass valves. Are you thinking of blow-off valves?

[EDIT]
Oh, I know what you are talking about. Those things to keep from sucking water into CAI's. That's called the same thing. Stupid me...

I think it is impossible for the water to make into the engine
1st- you will have to drive in 1 ft of water
2nd- if water gets sucked, it will be evaporated once it hits the turbo
3rd- if it gets pass the turbo, will also be evaporated at the IC
4th- if it gets pass the IC, it will have to travel up the pipe into the TB,
5th- if it does make it this far, it will evaporate once it enters the IM.

The heat shield is very intricate, and overall the SRS system has more parts. The SRS overall is supposed to be the cheaper kit for that person who can't get a CAS.

The SRS made very good gains, its just not going to be produced due to the cost. You'd be paying more than the CAS.

i see...so mainly..its the heat shield...
well...can u use a bypassvalve with a turboed car? if so? cool..ill get a cai..if not...i wouldnt mind paying more for an SRI with similar gains for more than the CAI since it is easier to clean the filter and is more reliable (b/c risk of water sucked into the engine)

AEM_tech

trust me..im sure other people will also pay more for an sri with cai gains, ease of cleaning and more reliability...if im right..you guys would stand to make a decentprofit selling sri's in a non sri market.

Note: I do understand u are a tech-ie and not a marketing person, but im just putting in my 2cents.

Why do we use the term horsepower ? Is that also to insult the horse ? The space-shuttle rocket boosters, each one, has 20 million horsepower. Why are we still comparing it with the horse ? Any chance we're gonna go back to using horses for rockets, trying to keep track of how many we're going to need ?

Hey horse, the rocket engine just broke down, can you get 20 million friends together really fast ?

You are joking... I know.

But... It is from when cars were first starting to replace carriages. It was based on how strong the horses could pull vs. how strong the car could pull. Eventually someone made a numerical value for horsepower and we have used it ever since... even though you have to have both Torque and HP to get a good idea of how strong an engine really is.
Later...Brian

check out this month's "Technobabble" column about Monkey Power by Dave Coleman in SCC magazine if u think horsepower makes sense.... :)

Bypass valve will not work on FI.

Crap, I'm not interested in a CAI. I ran one on my GTI and the damn filter was always wet, road salt and other crap constantly gunked it up and I was always worried in the rain. It took a lot of cleaning and it was a real PITA to get at to do it. Especially in winter. Filter needed cleaning after every snowstorm.

We get frog strangler rain storms around here. You often have to drive though flooded sections of city streets with 6 or more inches of standing water if you're caught in a summer thunderstorm.

CAI's are a non-starter for me.

I am interested, however, in a SRI. Hopefully one will come out.

That's why I won't get a CAI. They get very dirty and a lot of that is not caught by the filter and goes into the turbo, IC and engine. I am not ready to mess things up in search of and extra 10 HP. This is my daily driver!!

maybe i am beating a dead horse, but just to show how much interest there is in a SRI, i will start a list
