Regarding a freind,

He had basic mods, intake and bpv. he noticed something wrong with his turbo and took everything apart to figure out what was wrong with it. he found at the lip of the inlet tube a peice of metal, seemed like there was some grease on it, tarnished black. First thought it was the intake being loose or not working correctly. Took everything apart and put it back to stock, problem still existed. Took it the the dealership the next day and drop it off. First throught was a blown seal or something. Gets a call back and says that the Mazda REP has found him online at THIS FORUM talking about the situation and the mods he has. Warranty was denied from all work. Their main issue is that he had mods on his car but has yet to state specifically how the turbine got messed up. Service manager seems to say that for all he knows, debris/metal could have gone through the turbo blades and broke them. No way in hell this guy would throw nuts and bolts into his inlet pipe. So pretty much, he has to pay out of his pocket to get this fixed.

What should he do? Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act?

His main complaint is not at the dealership he took it to because they're doing more then they have to and bending over back to help him. They still haven't took apart the turbo yet and stating this information so i guess we'll have to wait for that. What would you do?

How would the rep know what handel he used on a fourm...... unless he used his vin???

no because dealership has a cause to the effect. its not he modded his engine, and his suspension started squeaking. the dealership has given a reason to why the warranty was voided. its a bust for your friend and i feel bad for him and his situation, but the warranty act holds no water in his case.

what is if the turbine just blew out? i mean i know thats far out but could it happen? is there something to look for when u look at a turbo thats blown?

Wow! Mazda reps actually go on these sites looking to void peoples warrenty. That is sick...(eekfu)

They can't legally void the entire warranty, only the portions he modified. i.e. if the suspension was modified, they can't perform warranty work on the suspension.

Tell him to get a lawyer ASAP and read up on the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act.

This isn't the place to get legal advice.

+1, its kind of sticky.... tough call as to what should happen, unfortunately, its the gamble we take. I recommend speaking to a lawyer as well to see what may be possible
