Accedents with MODS

I've been toying with the idea of cutting up the factory impact foam to fit over the Perrin/turbolife bar. I could care less about the safety or insurance implications but when you remove the bumper support the bumper cover sags a little bit. I figure I might be able to trim the foam to fit over the Perrin/turbolife bar to give back a little of the lost support. Might add a bit of protection back as well. Just something to think about...

Ya it's one of those mods where if your asking yourself these questions, it's not for you.

So your storing the car now finally? Good! Now buy a case of black Tremclad and try to make that undercarriage of yours look better..lol.

no its not stored...I had to do a lot of work on the FMIC's pipes that by the time I got them ready it was aready getting cold, so I decided to wait for the winter....but damn I want to put her away, but its just not looking like its possible again this year....

This is an unfair statement dude... just because im asking Question about insurance coverage has nothing to do with the "Mods being for me"

because even though the Turbolife kits is sweet... you have to take into account that the additional 25HP could end up costing you 10,000$+ if you are to get into an accedent.

No fights among the Montrealers, we are few and need to stick together.....enough for my motivational speach. I think his comment was more in general, mainly stating that this is a high risk mod when it comes to insurance claims since you'd be modifying the safety of the car. If you total the car, it might be a tougher case for them to prove it was the weakened bumper that caused it. The problem starts when you get in to a small bump and you bed your radiator in because the the crash bar wasn't there. The moral of the story is: Insurance companies are there to make money, so the will take any open gate to stick it to you

in order for your car to be insurable or even on the road it must conform to the SAAQ regulations. any modifications that affect the safety (though I think we all know that the Perrin/Turbolife FMIC is probably just a useful as the factory crash bar anyway) is considered illegal. any insurance company has the right to void your insurance policy if you car is not up to code with the governing SAAQ/DMV

I did a little reading on the SAAQ's site to see what was considered legal at one point and found references to insurance companies right to void a policy based on illegal modifications

but either way the only way an a claims adjuster will be able to tell that your factory bar is missing is if its a head on colision otherwise they will not be able to tell the difference unless they take off the bumber cover, and even then the turbolife/perrin FMIC has a black beam that to the people not in the know will mis-interpret as a factory crash bar anyway

but also in a thread like this usefull info is found/given....and to me this info about these fmic is goood stuff

this is true, but in the end you don't have to be right, you just have to be smarter than the claims adjuster...(2thumbs)

the purpose of insurance is to "make whole" which is very subjective so if you do not feel your adjuster has made you whole you need to speak up and not just take what they say as the truth.

That's almost exactly what the adjuster told us when he was asking if we had reciepts, or could come up with a price of the stuff we had installed. Actually we couldn't find the reciept for the radio but did find our warranty info from best buy and found the same head unit on ebay brand new for sale he took both as proof and added it. It was him asking also, we didn't even know we had the option, I was trying to figure out how to get the parts uninstalled when he brought it up. He actually said the point of insurance is to get you back in the car you were driving before the accident, hopefully around the same miles, ect. We happened to luck out cause I talked the dealer down a ton on the first Galant So we ended up with a lot more then we paid for the car just a few months later after buying it. Then found a good deal on a newer one and talked that dealer down a couple grand as well.
