AC Problems

This is part of the E-mail ('s) Mazda sent to me.

Dear William,

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

I have spoken with our Product Engineering Department regarding your
inquiry. They advised that Mazda is aware of this concern, and it is
under further investigation with our Engineers in Japan.

I'd recommend contacting your State Attorney General's office for your options

IMO "concern" means problem - only time will tell if Mazda will ever repair the concern.

Hmmm. I used to drive my girlfriend's protege5 and I noticed the air sucked. It was not defective, but just because the compressor is programmed to keep switching on and off too frequently, therefore it never makes the air really cold. I guess they have not improved this with the Mazda3, so I think essentially you guys are out of luck and will have to live with it. It is not true that "all cars are like this now". My Mazda6 blows freezing cold air.

I turn the a/c on, the fan off, and with vent mode I tilt the M roof and call it a day(smoke). At least they admited to it...chrysler wouldn't admit to leaving the toilet seat up!

ac problem

this is what mazda send me

Dear Jose,

Thank you for contacting Mazda North American Operations. I appreciate
the opportunity to respond to you.

In regard to your inquiry, please understand I'm not technically
trained and therefore not in a position to diagnose or instruct on
repair procedures for your 2004 MAZDA3. For these matters, Mazda relies
on the factory-trained technicians at authorized Mazda dealerships to
diagnose and repair concerns that may arise with a Mazda vehicle.

if you're not satisfied with your dealer's diagnosis, my best
recommendation would be to have your vehicle checked out by another
dealership.

Please understand, it is not common for the MAZDA3 to have the concerns
you described. I also drive a MAZDA3, and I don't have any of these
problems.

It sound like Mazda has made the decision to NOT FIX the AC problem in existing cars.

They have changed their story - from working on a "concern" to it is not a problem. If you take it to a dealer they say - it is working as designed. As a customer this is not what I expect.

They have not even bothered to reply to the last 2 E-mails I sent them -- I guess once Mazda gets your money they stop caring about you.

This is my last Mazda mistake.

After reading everyones input on this forum, this is probably my last mazda too. Finishing the lease and that's it.
Well, I have decided not to purchase the car now. I went and test drove the car at 2 different dealerships, with 2 different transmissions. The A/C sucks.

A tip for those of you with this car: When at a stop, try to elevate the RPM's to about 2500. This will make the AC blow colder at a stop.

Also: Has anyone experimented with a smaller AC compressor pulley? This would make the compressor pulley spin faster at all engine RPMs.

my air used to suck ass as well.........but i have found that the more i drive the car the better my car gets.........the tint prolly helped some..........but i acutally find myself turning the blower down to 1 and sometimes even off

I hear ya! I've had the car a little over three weeks, and quite a few of those days have seen 28C (about 83F) and the A/C is doing a very good job set at 1 or 2. Sometimes it gets too cool in the car, and i just leave the fan blowing with the A/C off while all the ducts are still cold.

People, 83 degrees F is not hot!!!!!!!!!!!!! It was 108 degrees today in the shade here in Phoenix, AZ!!!!!!! Yes, I said in the shade!!!! Step out of the shade and it is more like 115! Trust me when I say, compared to most cars, the Mazda 3 A/C is HORRIBLE! I have driven MANY cars here in this heat, so I know. Many car companies have their proving grounds here because of the notorious heat! And, even though it is extremely hot here, most cars do a pretty good job at cooling it down and keeping it cool, even while stopped. The Mazda 3 does not.

If you are considering buying the Mazda 3 and ever plan to live in a hot climate like this, don't buy it!!!!!!!!!!

Hehehe - true 83 is no 108 (flame) , but what I said was that in 83 degree weather the A/C cools without a lot of effort (only set to 1 or 2).

I figured that in hotter climates it would function fine (on 3 or higher). I guess I'm wrong - my bad! (smash)

My A/C seems to be working fine for me (knock on wood), granted when it is in the baking sun for hours it does take 5- 10 min. to cool down, but my 99 4-Runner which has an awesome A/C will do the same thing if it has been sitting in the sun for hours. IMO if cold air is coming out of the vents then it probably is not a problem with the A/C, maybe the materials in the car are good at holding heat in?

Any new updates from those who live in hot, hot weather areas?

I am still looking at the Mazda 3S, but the AC or lack of AC has me somewhat concerned? Has anybody in really hot areas (Atlanta, Miami, Phoenix, etc...) dealt with the AC issue?
I like the car, but I just don't want to bake from a lukewarm AC (already doing that in my ford escape)

I live in Tulsa, and it was 97 with a heat index of 106 today.. My airconditioning cooled fine.. It could be a little cooler and blow a little harder, but it's not bad.. (yawn)

If you live in a hot area of the country, go test drive one and see how good or bad it is. I live on the west coast of Florida, and mine cools fairly well. It's hot after sitting in the sun because I have black leather seats along with the black interior, but a windshield shade and tinted glass helps a lot. It cools down after a couple of minutes of driving. It could blow a little harder though. I'm satisfied with the a/c and still love the car.

got a called for dealer

got a called from the dealer today. they got tsb from mazda about the ac problem..taking my 3 next wed... (first)

The TSB# for the Mazda3 A/C issue is 07-005/04. This TSB came out last week and I've not read it yet (maybe yellowmazda3 can tell us more after the TSB is performed).

But at least you have the number to refer to your dealership.

For the Canadian's, don't even bother asking your dealership yet (Mazda Canada releases bulletins after MazdaUSA - if I get an update I'll post).
