ABS brake bypass

Is it possible to bypass the ABS feature without setting a CIL?
This is a little early to be asking, but I'd rather modify it in the summer, than tinker with it in the sub-zero temperatures of the winter.

Thanks in advance for all your feedback/thoughts

Not to be argumentative but why in the hell would you want to? (scratch)

Anyway... I doubt there's a way. If you don't want the ABS to work, you'll just have to unplug the ABS HCU and live with the MIL.

Still can't figure out why you want to...

I just didn't pay for it. If you didn't want it why did you get it?

I was thinking that, too. I think it's standard equipment in Canada or something.

I could see for autocross and track events why you would want to stop ABS from kicking in. I know that WRx's can just take out a fuse.

Does anyone know what we have to take out in order for it to be disabled? (I don't care about the CEL.)

Thanks(2thumbs)

Proteges just take out the fuse, but it will turn on your ABS and E-brake light in the cluster. I just remove those bulbs. Come to think of it I've taken out almost all my bulbs except the CEL since it's the only one that doesn't come on all the time.

With the stock tires (eagle RS-A's), they are absolutely terrible in the snow.
While I know ABS does have its advantages, there are disadvantages also.
While it's true ABS does give you more control while trying to turn and brake hard at the same time in slippery conditions, thresh-hold braking will always stop the car more quickly.

Another reason is (and I have tested this myself), I found a spot where there were 2 conditions adjacent each other (from ice to asphalt), while driving around 40 km/hr, hit the brakes while on the ice, the ABS will start to do it's job, but once the vehicle got onto the asphalt with no ice, the ABS continued to pulse the brakes until the car was completely stopped, many feet beyond where the car could have actually stopped if threshold braking was applied.

And yes, ABS is standard equipment in Canada (pissed)

I don't have abs either...but yeah I driven a car with it and once i hit train tracks the pedal hit the floor and it didn't brake any faster than the point before I hit the train track crossing. This was in a chevy vehicle but I don't like the idea of abs at some times but there is a few times I would have been better off with it. Moral of the story is can't live with it and can't live with out it...guess the best thing is the pulling of fuse. when you pull the fuse do you also loose EBB?

EBB? as in Electric Brake Bias? My guess would be that you loose that too. I think I ran into some problems with that at the last AutoX where my rear tires were locking up before my fronts even got close. I'm still playing with the adjustment on the rear brakes though so I might be able to dial that out a little.

OIC, Sorry. I feel the same way, hench why I opted out of that option although I do wish I had the side SRS airbag system :(

You don't have any airbags?? (nervous) (Or do you mean you want the side airbags as well?) SRS = Supplemental Restraint System, which includes, but is not limited to, the front airbags.

Yeah, like he said:

Guess I wasn't typing loud enough...

...or Bart has presbyacoustia/presbyopia. (old people who can't hear or see) J/k LOL

(blah)

Yes, I have the front SRS just not the SIDE SRS. Here in the states the SIDE SRS is an option package w/ the ABS.

Whoa. Definately has to be some kind of neurodevelopmental deficit. My bad! (bang)

correction: Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD)

Is it possible to disable the abs with only the abs light on the dash?

I've tried removing a few of the fuses for ABS and each time, I get a CIL and the power steering behave irratically (reduced power).

If I disconnect each of the 4 sensors at the wheels, will that cause only the ABs light to illuminate and not the CIL?

note to self: "man I need to get a wiring schematic"

Just unplug the ABS hydraulic control unit. That should give you an ABS light but not a CEL (note proper acronym).
