Hey guys, I am new to these forums but I have been browsing on for some time. I have a lot of questions for you and I hope no one will flame me as I find your forums great and helpful. I own a 400 whp EVO that I drive to work everyday with no issues and I have owned many other turbod cars including GTIs, S4 and WRX. I was and still thinking about buying a used MSP in good shape so I can drive to work that will save me on gas and lower the mileage of my EVO. I really love the way MSP look and I think its a great car until I read couple things on these forums by some members. First of all I want to know How come you guys cant raise the boost more than 10~12 psi on a factory turbocharged car? I mean all the turbod cars I had I was be able to boost to 18 psi and above no issues. I am not saying that I am buying the MSP to make it a boost monster, All I want is a reasonably fast good looking daily driver. I just cant believe that Mazda would use the same engine internals on regular Protg on the MSP. I mean I am sure so far that MSP has IRON block which should hold 20 psi easily. Heck my GTI was 25 psi no issues for 3 years and track days. If it is true that MSP engine cant handle more than 12 psi (which is so weird because a Honda none turbo car can do that) what is the engine code? Some of you might say that the fuel system wont be able to match high boost but I am not worried about that as I will add a fuel pump and injectors. Please dont flam me, I am a new guy who is trying to buy MSP.

Well one of the forum members, Discreet , was doing 15 psi for near a year and hasn't blown his engine from what i know. 12 psi is attaiable just with the correct supporting mod. If anything try to find a non-flash msp the reason why the flash released by mazda advance the timing so boosting to high on a flash car is not a good idea.
Also your gonna hear that a tune car running 12 psi is a lot better than just cracking it up to 16 psi.

crappy rods like logan said. Though I dont know why people cant get over 10 because I boosted 22 for a day due to broken mbc. Pulled like a mother f,er and out ran my evo VIII no problems. But I ripped the mbc out and now im waiting on new mbc. Plus I didnt want to blow my car sky high. The point is I think you can do a good 12-15 no problems just becareful sence you have or had several boosted cars you know what to look for.

I am boosting 30 psi on race gas on my EVO and 24 on pump so i was hooping that MSP could handle about 20s max so that gives me more room to play. However a member above is saying that MSP has skinny rods and that explains alot as the MSP has a very good CR which is 9.1.

ok lets put the fuel on the side for now. and think truly why MSP cant boost high? first of all you cant blame the IC cuz many other cars including GTI's and S4's have even smaller IC and can run way more boost. they have CR of 9.5:1 so that even puts them in more danger while boosting. about timing does anyone on these forums have a stand alone or any tuner have a flash or chip for MSP?

MPNick sells the MPI tuner which is an adaptation of the Perfect Power system. This system allows you to control fuel and timing but to what extent I am not sure. You can send him a PM or do a search on the MPI tuner for more details.
Also hiboost sells a Haltech with his protege turbo kits so it would work with an MSP as well.
I don't think anyone makes a straight ECU flash or reprogram.
