I got my first ticket last night in the new Speed 3; I was on the 101 in Ventura County, CA. I was doing about 75 mph's and what do I see all of a sudden shoot up behind me? A CHP, she pulls me over.

She said she was pacing me doing 80, but she also told me that there was a car behind me following me at the same speed. She proceeded to tell me that she couldn't get us both so she went for the lead car which was me. She gave me a ticket for exceeding 65 mphs. I asked her how much the ticket would be, and she said, it could be anywhere from $90 -$360 depending on how my driving record is.

She also said that the ticket she gave is the same no matter if I was doing 66 mphs or 90.

Thanks for listening; I had to get this off of my chest.(argh)(argh)(argh)

you're fortunate in CA, in VA i think anything over 80 is reckless driving, car/lic gone you could go to jail there!

if i didn't drive 75 on the highways here in MA, i'd get run off the road (there's always the break down lane of course?)

Most of the cops will get both...that was a sucky situation. I've been there, done that. Double down, get that off your record, and live life a little lighter in the wallet...lol.

Get a radar!!!!! It has saved me sooo much $$$$$ and I haven
t gotten pulled over since (knock on wood)...except for that time I was clocked by an airplane...(bang)

that sucks dude, if i were u, dispute the ticket. i dont think it's a legetimate evidence that u were speeding. I'd be better off getting pulled over if my speed was radared with a gun. i think pacing s*** is bulls***. I've driven on highways plenty of times and i always go 75 on 65, i even have cops pass me when i was doing 80 and they dont pull me over ;). I think in NJ, if the traffic is going on ave speed of 75, the cops rarely pull anyone over. personally, they only pull over anyone going over 85;).

just my 2 cents cuz a friend of mine is a state trooper !!! i think the cop was just being a b**** :)

Is not like that in CA. I have been in bumper-to-bumper traffic and seen CHP pull someone over. Its like what could they have possibly done going 10mph :(

Take it to court that pacing crap never holds..

the pacing laws are very strict on police officers dude you should contest that. they have to be within a certain distance for a certain distance (like within 30 yards for 3 miles (not sure about the exact numbers, but the laws are worded like that)). anyway, if a cop is pacing you the way they legally have to, you would notice they're there before they ever get the chance to get you.

I OBJECT!!!

What the hell, was she new? I do 80 all the time & so does 85% of the people in Cali...what a moron!!!

I don't know about fighting it though. I was in court & this dude was fighting his ticket he lost & paid triple the amount.....So good luck with that.

The time of the month, FTL! lol

Sorry to hear about your unfortunate encounter with the CHP. She could've been nice about it and said, "Nice car.... I paced you and another vehicle, but since I couldn't pull you both over, I pulled the lead car over... which was you." "So instead of me giving you a ticket for speeding..this will be just a verbal warning. Oh and by the way, here's my number, call me sometime, did I mention Nice car?" lol that'd been too good... but whatevers.. good luck with that ticket, and let us know how it goes.

^^ +1 maybe its a stripper playing cop ;)

in WV, depending on how long the cop is pacing you.... if its over 5 miles then its thrown out of court as a profiling case, ie they were waiting to see you do something wrong. In fact, if a cop sees you do something wrong and doesn't pull you over within 5 miles its thrown out as well. Bad thing is, they always got me at 4.5 miles, lol.

Good luck fighting it in court... I doubt you would win... CHP does NOT normally use radar on the freeways out here - they dont need to (have yet to have the radar go off even with the cop on my ass - its used on the streets more than anything)
That ticket will most likely run you close to 300 bucks by the time you are done paying for traffic school, fees, etc... 90 bucks was so you wouldnt feel bad.... where in Ventura did you get stopped?

contest it and go to court, if she doesnt show up, then it gets thrown out. the worst has already happend, it can only better if she doesnt show :)
