A few questions about my MS6

So, I've had my '06 MS6 for a couple months now. I love the car, it's great fun while still doing duty as a family car. I do have a couple of noob-ish questions though that I was hoping I could get some advice on.

- After driving for a little while and the engine heats up, there is a noticeable smell whenever I stop. Smells like something is burning a bit. It's oil-ish in smell, but doesn't exactly smell like burning oil if that makes sense. Turning the vents in the car to recycled air will prevent it from being noticeable while stopped. There is nothing leaking that I can see (engine bay is very clean), and there's no smoke or anything. Just that smell. One possibility that I originally thought was that it would seem that the prior owner used some oil based cleaner on the car. Both the interior and engine bay were very oily and shiny. Could that still be burning off from the engine, a couple thousand miles later? Or is there something else I should look for?

- Driving freeway speeds (~65mph) in 6th gear, accelerating will sometimes be met with a shudder and bog. As in, I'll push the pedal, here the turbo spool up, and then stop accelerating and start shuddering and running rough. If I let up on the gas and try again, usually it will work better. It's not consistent, but it is frustrating. I'd found some people on these boards mention the fuel pump and a TSB related to it (#01-022/08) Before I head into a dealer and pay them to look at, I was curious to know if there is anything else that could possibly be causing this issue.

- Is acceleration for most MS6 owners smooth? While not a problem, it's something that I've not noticed before in other cars, turbo or not. When accelerating hard, it just seems to not be a smooth acceleration, but rather it will sometimes have small little surges. Not really a problem, just something I was curious about.

I think that's about it for now. If it helps, the car has about 43k miles on it now. The clutch TSB has been performed, but the fuel pump has not. I know I'm due for new spark plugs soon as well. Was thinking of putting in some ITV22 plugs, even though I'm stock and plan on staying like that for now.

Thanks!

your first problem i have no idea. your oil based cleaner idea sounds pretty sound. if it gets worse i would take it in to the dealer and have them look into it.

i saw a thread somewhere around here about some one else having shuddering problems. some advice i can give u is down shift at that speed to accelerate. by just pressing the gas in 6th at that speed your loading up your engine quite a bit.

and as for the smooth accelerating. these cars tend to surge a bit. if u get the cobb ap it seems to smooth it out quite a bit. or so i ahve read in other memebers reviews.

Problem 1 - No idea. Give it a bit longer and see if it is the plastic cleaner burning off. Don't wait too long, like when you go unconscious, but keep an eye on it

Problem 2 - Yes, this is "normal" as in, most people have the same problem. Should this happen? Absolutely not, but it does. I have heard many solutions for this problem, some people say fuel pump, others say spark plugs

Problem 3 - I have the same problem with this one also, but I mostly blame my clutch (don't have the TSB) and my engine tune (I am running the original MS6 tune. There have been several software updates to correct problems like this one. If you have the TSB done, chances are you also have the latest software update.

Oil smell

I have the same oil smell on my '06 MS6. I've only had the car a few months. It has 37K on it now. It almost smells like gear oil or very hot engine oil. No smoke from the exhaust, and no oil leaks. I park in the same place every day and there are no drips whatsoever. Sure is smelly, though. I plan a trip to the dealer soon, I'll ask them about it.

65mph in 6th gear is under 3000rpm, out of turbo. mashing the pedal here will only put load on the engine and cause it to stutter. get a boost gauge so you know when you're actually building power, or downshift to 5th or 4th.

yea def downshift man. you cant being WOT in high gear and low rpm

also maybe get an intake.. cuz that engine doesnt get enough air from the stock air box

Same kind of problem with mine. I took it to the dealer earlier this week and they found a bunch of gear lube puddled on the splash guard and on the differential. Kind of behind the right front tire. It looked like the gear lube was splashing on the exhaust and making the smell. That explained a lot because it smelled like gear lube, not exactly like motor oil. They cleaned it all off and checked the fluid level, which was actually fine. They said they figured it came from an overfill. So now after three days of driving I have to say the problem is still as bad as ever so I guess it's going back soon.
