7500 miles

So currently I am at ~7000 miles. I brought my CX-7 in for an oil change and a service bulletin regarding a clunking metal sound. They are going to replace some part to remove the clunking noise and they said I might as well do the 7500 mile minor service. What mileage are people at with their car? Any problems? As far as maintenance goes, I chose the "basic" package which didn't include a high-speed wheel alignment and some additive to the motor oil to make sure there isn't any slime build up. Do you think the "premium" maintenance is worth it ($105 vs. $180)? I get my car later today -- I hope they don't screw anything up with the service bulletin fix. In other news, I got a Mazda 6 loaner which is nice :). 6 speed automatic, and it's a lot more nimble than my CX-7.

This must be a local dealer "we're going to make you feel guilty for not loving your car" thing. Your owner's manual specifically states that oil additives are not recommended. Read your manual, and find a dealer whose service department is not trying to screw you.

"High speed wheel alignment"--speed has nothing to do with alignment. It's done sitting still. "High speed wheel balance" is a thing of the past. Find a good tire place with Hunter equipment to get your wheels balanced, and a dealer whose service department is not trying to screw you.

Your CX-7 has the same six-speed auto, but it's mounted a lot lower in a smaller vehicle. My Miata is a lot more nimble than my CX-7, but, um, "apple to oranges" comes to mind.

that makes sense to me, thanks for the info.

BTW, they ended up not being able to do anything about the metal clunking noise (there's a service bulletin for this for AWD) on my FWD. Has anyone brought in their CX-7 (FWD) to fix this clunking noise?

I brought mine in (FWD) for the metal noise when you shift from park to Reverse. They said they cannot duplicate the noise and that the TSB addresses the AWD only. I guess were out of luck for now. At least until I can reproduce the noise on video.

actually, i think my dealer was able to reproduce the noise. however, because the service bulletin said it was for AWD only, they ended up having to call mazda technical support and i think they said they couldn't do anything about it.
