7 finally makes it to a Mazda dealer...

When I brought my Signature home, I referred to the owner's manual and turned my auto-folding mirrors off before I shut down for the first time.
I've yet to park in a spot tight enough that I felt the need to fold them ... but at least a simple turn of the rotary knob simplifes the procedure.

If the space is that tight, how you gonna exit the vehicle?
Every time they folded and every time they reopened, all I could think was "One less cycle left in them."

I think I've been in exactly one situation where I folded them in myself, and I only did it because I could.

I think the only time they're advantageous is when you have to park on the street. Less chance of a vehicle or cyclist clipping the mirror and damaging it. Another use case is if your garage door is narrow. You could fold them in to enter/exit with less risk of accidentally clipping the garage door trim. This really only makes sense on wider vehicles though, I think the CX-5 isn't wide enough for this to be a problem for most owners.

Auto folding mirrors are a good visual indicator that the doors are locked, especially if you have walk away locking enabled.

Good point! Hope Mazda has improved the pivot parts which would last longer on power folding mirrors as I remember you had mentioned before there's a TSB for early failure on CX-5's power folding mirrors.

Auto folding feature on power folding mirrors has been working everyday for more than 12 years on friend's 2007 Ford Mondeo.

Pessimistic much? Damn... They certainly should outlast your ownership of the vehicle.
You sound like my dad who didn't want power windows. "One more thing to break!" (Crank handles break too, dad)
I wish I had them. My garage is tight.

And typical yrwie "I hope they improved them..." Sigh... Is there anything you like about the CX5? That you think does NOT need improved?

I like them. Its a subtle flex on the poors. I'll take it.

Also...warranty covers em for 10 years and 150k miles, so I can keep flexin

GET OFF MY LAWN!!!!

Anyway, I just didn't like them folding out/folding in/folding out every time I started/stopped/started for no good reason at all. And I have had electric windows go out...in more than one vehicle. Your dad will tell you that crank handles are easier to fix. ;)

Regarding yrwie's comment, I could find no TSB on sideview mirror issues, but I don't have access to subscription sites. Is this just a nasty rumor?

Back in the 60s they DID break waaaay too often. But no more.

The most reliable windows I had were on my '59 Austin Healey Sprite. It had side curtains (kinda like some Jeeps), but made out of hard plastic. They would slide open.

The worse that could happen is you would lose the allen wrench and have no way to take them off or put them back on.

No, they did break but theyve beefed them up now. There is a TSB on improving the sealing but I cant upload it from the app.

Done.

Thanks. Yeh, I guess the Fed does not list OCONUS issues.
