What does this consist of and is it necessary? I keep getting emails and letters... My car is at 4800 miles and the oil will be good until 6k.

Thanks!

Your manual is your friend. The 5,000 mile service usually is only an oil & filter change and top up the underhood fluids if needed.

Yep, hence my routine :-) Never just tell the dealership to just do xxx mile service because they'll find any reason to do something extra.

+1 Open your owners manual and high-light what the factory recommends. Take that information with the manual to the dealer and request only the required service. Some dealers (read most) have their own agenda to increase profits significantly. You will probably hear " in our area because of what ever" we recommend. Simple and politely refuse anything not recommended in the owners manual. My observations over many years of car ownership. Post back what you had done and the cost. Ed

thanks everyone.

I guess I should have read up first, figured I would be lazy and not get up to go read :).

I will check my air filter and determine... Might just get a K&N.

BTW... Does anyone know where the air filter is on a mazda3? On my wifes car the air intake goes to the battery box... Guess I should read the manual for that too hehe.

YES: Owners manual are a good read. I often read mine many times throughout the time I own my vehicles
