Have you looked at getting a packaged insurance deal? i.e., if you rent an apartment or purchased a condo, you should be able to get a decent Renters/Homeowners and Auto Insurance package. I've probably saved US $1500 a year just by doing that.
Lucky you can get auto only insurance. Here in NJ it's impossible to buy automobile insurance, and insurance companies will screw you.
First they'll send you a letter that they'll drop you (which is illegal but who has the time to fight them in court?), then you have only 4 weeks to find new insurance. But because so many auto insurers don't want new customers, but NJ laws require them to provide insurance, many insurance companies make it as painful as possible to get insurance, like, "We'll snail mail you a form, fill it out, snail mail it back, and you'll hear from us in 6 weeks after we receive your application" which is total BS. I was calling every single stinking auto insurer in this state and got the same response until someone told me about insurance packages. Good luck to you all in your fight to get better insurance rates.
