I'm on the market for summer tires.
I have a MP3 which is using 205/45/17.

I wonder If I should use 205/40/17. I know it would fit, but is there a huge problems or decrease performance using the 40.

I put Eibach Pro-Kit which dropped the car 1"4 front and 1"8 rear, the garage guy told me that using 40 is even better since the car is dropped.

Anyone can confirme that?

Should I go for 40 or I should alway stick with 45?

i personally think its best to try to keep the same overall diameter as the stock setup... so i'd keep 45mm with the 17".. or get 40mm with 18" or 35mm with 19" etc.

Just that 205/10/17 tires has more choices
and a guy offer me a set of Yoko ES100 for 450$CAD, used for 6000 km...
Like half price than a set of brand new and I guess the price is still nego.

You're talking about less than 1/4" of a drop going from 205/45 to 205/40's. If you have good tread, I wouldn't bother.

Edit: it's actually a little less than 1/2" of a drop:

205/45/17 Tire Height is 24.2"
205/40.17 Tire Height is 23.4"

The difference in height is 0.8"... divide by two to see how much it will lower the car (0.4"). I hope I have impressed you all with my 2nd grade math skills! :)

Although I am no tire expert, I think the 45, 35, etc. refers to the sidewall height as a percentage of the tire width.
