Idea stolen from 1stMP3 ;p

Your mission is to gain the most performance for $3500 or less. The car is a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege with an Injen Cold Air Intake.. besides that, it's stock. You can use any prices so long as they can be found with a factory warrenty. Hence, only authorized vendors, no EBAY .

Install labor is not part of the $3500

The parts can include what ever you think will make for the best performance overall.

I think this will go along way to answer the, "Whats the best questions".

To recap:

1) The car is a 2003 Mazdaspeed Protege w/ Injen Cold Air Intake
2) The goal is to get the most performance out of an MSP
3) Any equipment can be used.
4) List equipment and prices
5) No Ebay, only authorized vendors that prices can be checked.
6) $3500 budget

Edit: It doesn't neccasairily have to be everything done at once for $3500... but maybe a couple top of the line things that you should start out with.

OK, have at it!

I don't understand... how do you win? How do you prove what's best? And why does it have a Injen CAI? Can it be taken off and sold? :p

Hacksaw - $20
pack of steel cutting blades $10

4 Spare "donuts" $50 each

Joe's MBC - $45 ( I think )

Take off the doors, trunk and hood. Put on the donuts, turn up the boost. Want more performance, start using that hacksaw - every pound counts.

Someone post the link I'm thinking of, I can't remember it.

Yeah...I got my Injen on the way, so all I need is the $3500 to get all the goodies I listed. Plus, this gives me a good pick-list in the future. There are some things I listed I probably wouldn't buy (Ground Controls..I think stock is fine), but I wanted to spend the whole $$. Really, there's lots of flexibilty in there..which is why I bought this car. For less than $3000, you can make this a serious tuner...which still makes it far less than a stock WRX or EVO.

*realizes*-"oh s***, I could have put forged pistons on there"

OK, I would take the 3500.00 a use it as a down payment for an Evo...

Shouldn't you set goals and a $ amount instead of just the $ amount. Like say .92 or better skid pad, 1mph improvement in the 700ft slalom over SCC's testing, 13 second 1/4 mi, etc.

Anyone can throw $ and parts at a car but it takes a true tuner/enthusiast to make the best of those parts and money.
