255/35 on 18x8.5 and a credit card?

After finding out that my 235/40 reo1r that needed to be replaced wiegh the same as the 255/35 reo1r i decided to go for it; Hoping they would fit. I rolled my fenders before I put them on. My 235s did not rub with my 53mm offset, however I new that the 255s would. The 235s were very good on my 8.5 wheels, the tires felt very crisp and responsive. The sidwall was well supported by the wide rim. I knew running the 255s would lose some of the responsiveness, however I wanted to gain more grip. I feel like the tradeoff has been worth it.

To get the clearance needed in the front I had to file away the adjustment collers on my coilovers, as well as use the 4mm spacer from my old tein setup. Making my front offset 49, I did not want to go any lower with my offset, so filing away that material was my only option. It is still extremely tight but does not rub.

mine 245/45/17 on 17x8 50 offset set up.....with a 4mm or 5 mm spacer 255 should be fine.....<--and thats my question to op

there is no need to go that wide but nice you are the first one that did this
Thanks, One question why do you say that in regards to width?

Yes that should fit, however 255 on 8'' is really pushing it. I would prefer to go at least 9 like buildabong. 8.5 is the minimum rim whidth allowed for my 255 re01rs. The sidewall is a little less crisp than would like, A 9'' rim would certainly be better. However I am still very pleased with my results.

lol want me to go buy a 255/45? or 255/40? and see if it rubs or not? hahaha

Do it. With your offset they should not rub. I think that your light 17x9s with a set of 255 reo1rs would be one of the best performing street wheel and tire combos possible for a speed 3.(first)

Any pics with it on the ground? Very interested..

I will try to take some tonight.

So you have a credit card's width of clearance for a tire??? You do realize that a tire will flex alot when loaded in a corner and it WILL rub during agressive driving.

I'd say the biggest you should go width wise on a 8" wide wheel should be 245.

I was going to say the same 245 looks to be a bit better. I hope your tires don't flex too much in the turn and rub those coilovers.

Hery are those pics WITH the 4mm spacer on them? If not, then adding the spacer will probably do the truck for clearence. How about rubbing the fender as well? 255 I would think would stick out from the fender.

This is with the 4mm spacer installed. The rear fenders needed to rolled to clear; the front fenders work fine without rolling.

I realize that the tires flex much more than the gap I have between the tire the coilover. However it will not rub under heavy load; the tire has half a rotation to go back to its unloaded position. If you like I'll post pics of the inside of the tire with no marks. I already have 700 km on this setup, with lots of hard cornering. They do not rub, however if I bend a rim...(ughdance)

does it have any camber flex inward at all? I would think that would be a tought one if it flexed inward over a bump at high speed and it would stop the tire instantaneously and almost cause a spin out or lockup of the tire real quick. But hey wider tires are sweet! Glad to see someone has put some large ones on there.
