225/FORTY/18 on stock ms3 wheels

just curious as i see mostly 225/45/18 as the option tire...

yes, shorter sidewall, etc, but i'm just curious if anyone made this choice.

thanks y0

I'm not sure I quite understand your question, but I plan on putting on 225/40/18's.
I just got Rota's that are 8" wide, and ordered the Eibach Pro Kit to lower (.8" - .7").

yeah i'm just curious if anyone has gone with 225/40 on the stock wheels as opposed to 225/45.

to me is seems you'd have a less compliant ride, but stiffer sidewalls and a little less overall rolling diameter which can both be benefits in themselves.

y0 what is the offset of the 8 inch wheels you just got?

I have 225/40/18 on my stock ms6 wheels, work just fine, not much difference, better better wear from the nitto neo-gens than the potenza's 140treadlife FTL

I have 225/40/18 on my stock rims. The size is more common and there for less expense, for the same tire, compared to the 225/45/18. Tires work well, except for the 3 flats that i had THIS YEAR!

I'm running Kumho XS 225/40/18 on the stock rims and it works great. Speedo reads about 2% high. The slightly wider side bulge is also a good rim protector.

Just did this today

Went from Stock Potenza RE050A 215/45/18s

to

Potenza RE001 Adrenalines 225/40/18

Car is Running way better more stable i can hoof it completly and the wheels arent breaking

I'm running Pirelli M&S 225/40/18s on my stock wheels, works just fine and fills out the wheel a bit more, little protection from rubbing. Speedometer is off 3mph or so on the high side at freeway speeds.

see, that's the thing, i know i could use the extra width and probably wouldn't mine the shorter sidewall, but i really am not sure if 5mm on the outside will be available for me considering my setup.

I'm running my setup with the eibach pro kit no problem.

i have them on mine as well. I haven't had any problems with them. What I will note is that according to most sites 8" is the minimum recommended width for a 225/40/18. I did not realize this until after I put them on but like I said, i haven't had any issues after 20k+ miles.

oh crap, i didn't mention it in this thread but a similar one on another forum...i've been running eibach 15mm spacers for a while. i rolled the fenders a week or two ago just as a safety precaution and whether or not i have 5mm to spare is up in the air!

i will have to do the wheel jack thing to measure it out...

but, the main reason i was curious if anyone ran them was because i figured the shorter overall diameter would only help me with my issue but i just haven't seen, generally, people running the 40 series 225's. now i know that is not an accurate assessment!

+1 for extra rim protection

I've heard that the 225/40 has a slightly harsher ride than the 225/45.

just my .02

If you're running 8" wide rims, will 235/40's clear / not rub with stock suspension?

This is the closest to stock outside diameter and would give you the most accurate speedo readings.

I would imagine the 225/40 gives you a bit more gear reduction, stiffer sidewall for better steering response, slightly harsher ride, but noticeable speedo inaccuracy.
